GOVERNOR KEFAS RESTORING TARABA'S LOST GLORY

When Governor Agbu Kefas was elected as the 11th democratically elected governor of Taraba State and subsequently sworn into office on May 29th, 2023, the Taraba-born military man, quintessential leader, and man of God was not under any illusion that governing a complex state like Taraba would be an easy task.

Shortly after assuming office, and despite the tough and tortuous legal battle mounted by the then-opposition NNPP in the elections petition tribunal against his landslide victory at the polls, Governor Kefas set about establishing the necessary administrative structures and resources to activate the governance process in the state.

The Governor took office at a time when there was a near-catastrophic collapse in virtually all sectors, including education, commerce, poverty alleviation, and, most importantly, security.

Undeterred by these challenges, he embarked on a quest to transform the state, encapsulated in the policy thrust of his "Moving Forward" government. This initiative is primarily anchored on the provision of qualitative and affordable healthcare, sound education, agriculture, women and youth empowerment, science and technology, energy development, environmental protection, and social justice, as well as the establishment of an effective and well-structured security system.

It is on record that his Excellency, understanding that a vibrant and effective judiciary is essential for a well-disciplined and corruption-free society, has made significant improvements in the allocation and utilization of funds earmarked for the judiciary. To his credit, the state high court will undergo a transformation with the construction of modern court facilities.

Additionally, as part of his Excellency’s quest to industrialize the state, he has initiated a deliberate process aimed at reactivating and revitalizing moribund industries. Worthy of mention is the greenhouse, which is now operational and ready for commissioning, along with the Highland Tea facility located at the Mambilla Plateau, which is also operational after years of inactivity.

The state capital, Jalingo, can be likened to a construction site, where visitors are greeted with numerous ongoing projects, some of which have been completed, including the Kefas Ultra Modern Abattoir, Kefas Palliative Market, the new face of School Nursing Jalingo, the remodelled Danbaba Suntai Airport, the remodelled Taraba State House of Assembly Complex, and the remodelled Government House Jalingo, now known as TY Danjuma House.

The educational sector is one of the most prioritized areas by Governor Kefas. He has implemented a fee reduction in all state-owned tertiary schools and ensured that primary and secondary schools in the state are free. These schools are receiving significant facelifts through the renovation and construction of new classrooms, No wonder the state holds a significant position in the rankings of both WAEC and NECO a credible examination body.

The list of Governor Agbu Kefas’s Midas touch on various aspects of the state’s economy is extensive. He has vowed to do more in accordance with the available resources at his disposal. It is imperative for all right-thinking Tarabians to rise and support him in this transformative journey.
