FG Revives Technical Education to Tackle Unemployment in Northeast Nigeria

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to repositioning technical education in Nigeria as part of efforts to combat unemployment and foster entrepreneurship among graduates of technical colleges.

At a three-week Technical, Vocational, and Education Training (TVET) camp held in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, the Federal Government, in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB), trained students from technical colleges across Northeast Nigeria in practical skills such as tiling and interlocking.

The initiative, aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to equip students with the necessary skills to succeed in a technology-driven world and restore the declining prominence of technical education in the country.

Speaking at the event, the Principal of Federal Science and Technical College, Jalingo, Samuel Bibinu, emphasized the importance of skill acquisition as a viable alternative to the traditional pursuit of white-collar jobs.

The Commissioner for Education in Taraba State, Augustina Godwin commended the program, describing it as a significant step towards addressing unemployment and empowering young Nigerians with relevant skills for self-reliance.

Muyibat Adenike, Director of the Technical and Science Education Department at the Federal Ministry of Education, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making the education sector more effective and responsive to national development needs.

Mohammed Hayatu, a student from Federal Science and Technical College, Jalingo, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his efforts to create a brighter future for the youth.

The program concluded with the certification of participants and the presentation of starter packs to help them apply their newfound skills effectively.
