A Cry for Justice: The Tragic Attack on Taraba Indigenes in Edo State

On the night of February 25, 2025, at approximately 2:00 AM, a heinous attack was unleashed upon innocent villagers in Ovia Local Government Area of Edo State. 6 Tarabans who worked on a Cocoa farm were attacked, all hailing from Kassa Ward in Yorro Local Government Area of Taraba State, suffered unspeakable brutality. Lives were lost, others were left gravely injured, and many remain missing. The pain and anguish inflicted upon these helpless individuals are beyond words.

Among the casualties, Solomon Garrison lost his life in the most inhumane manner. His body was left to decompose unattended, as there was no one to retrieve or bury him with dignity. Others, including Lakini Yusuf, Augustine Bulus, and Mading Dimas, were butchered mercilessly, their bodies bearing the horrific marks of brutality. Soron Allah Matiyu, though alive, is among those who suffered grievous wounds. These individuals, who once had dreams, hopes, and aspirations, now find themselves battling for survival in dire conditions.

The injured victims are currently receiving inadequate treatment at Emiloju Hospital in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State and Adigun Hospital in Secure Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State. Their suffering is exacerbated by the fact that there is no one to shoulder their mounting medical bills. It is heartbreaking to note that Japhet Garrison, a man who once worked alongside them before moving to Lagos, has had to return to Edo State to look after them, struggling single-handedly to ensure they receive some form of care.

This tragedy is not an isolated incident. Barely a month later, on March 28, 2025, another gruesome attack claimed the lives of 16 people along the Uromi Ubagana Expressway, also in Edo State. In that case, the state government of the victims swiftly condemned the killings, and the governor of Edo State personally visited Kano to express his condolences and initiate compensation plans. However, in the case of our dear Taraba brothers, silence prevails. No word of condolence, no call for justice, no move towards support or compensation.

Even more disheartening is the deafening silence from the leadership of Yorro Local Government and other relevant authorities in Taraba State. Despite being informed about this barbaric act, they have neither approached the state government nor taken any meaningful steps to seek justice for the victims. Their inaction speaks volumes, leaving the affected families abandoned in their darkest hour.

I am calling upon our domestic media, Taraba truth & facts tagged in post TARABA NEWS tagged in post Musa Peace Affos tagged in post, well-meaning individuals, and human rights organizations to amplify this grievous injustice. We must not allow this inhumanity to be swept under the rug. The Taraba State Government, under the leadership  of Agbu Kefas tagged in the post, must be informed and urged to establish a committee to thoroughly investigate this incident. We cannot stand idly by while our people are slaughtered, humiliated, and left to suffer without repercussions for the perpetrators.

Let it not be said that a Taraban can be killed, butchered, or bullied without consequences. We demand justice. We demand action. We call upon all those in power to rise and ensure that such tragedies never repeat themselves. Our voices must not be silenced, and our fallen must not be forgotten. May their souls find peace, and may those in pain find healing and justice.

Please, if God has touched you to render help of any kind, You can call me or call Japhet Garrison, who is currently in the hospital, with them on 07045758462 or Me on 07063322341.

Yorro Leaders, all eyes are on you. You all are aware of this.
