PDP Youth Group Questions Federal Government's Handling of Dangote Refinery

*By: New Issues Magazine, Nigeria*

The Red Cap Movement, a youth group affiliated with the PDP, has raised concerns regarding the Federal Government's recent decision to limit the Dangote Refinery's ability to sell petroleum products directly to dealers. Instead, the government has mandated that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) be the exclusive distributor.

The group is questioning the rationale behind this policy, suggesting it may be an effort to maintain control over the fuel market and obscure the true details of Nigeria's fuel consumption. They argue that permitting the Dangote Refinery to sell directly would shed light on the actual extent of fuel imports and subsidies, which has been kept under wraps.

Additionally, the Red Cap Movement criticized the government's price control policy, asserting that it is unnecessary for the government to regulate the pricing of products from Dangote Refinery.

The spokesman for the group also expressed skepticism about the government's sudden focus on regulating Dangote Refinery, especially given prior concerns about the quality of its production.

The Red Cap Movement stressed that their concerns center on achieving transparency and fairness in the oil sector, rather than the issue of subsidy removal.
