The Taraba State Government through the Ministry of Heritage and Ecotourism has entered into a Development Lease Agreement with Mambilla Hills Resort Limited, a company under the umbrella of African International Documentary Festival foundation-AFIDFF to kickstart the construction of the Mambilla Hills Resorts at Kakara, Tunga SGEN, Sardauna LGA.
The agreement, signed on April 30th, 2025 at the office of the Honourable Commissioner for Heritage and Ecotourism, Hon Joseph Titus Nagombe grants Mambilla Hills Resort LTD a 30-year lease on approximately 20 hectares of land located in Kakara, Sardauna Local Government Area.
Recalled that, Taraba State Government through the Ministry of Heritage and Ecotourism signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the African International Documentary Festival Foundation (AFIDFF) to build eco-lodges and the associated amenities that promote sustainable tourism and environmental conservation in Tunga SGEN, Sardauna LGA, Taraba State
As part of requirements by the developers, Taraba State Government signed a Development Lease Agreement to enable the investors begin work in the coming months.
The partnership is set to transform the property into a world-class eco-luxury tourism destination, integrating cultural, agricultural, and sporting elements, as outlined in the project scope.
The lease allows Mambilla Hills Resorts Limited to construct various facilities, including but not limited to, the following: Conference and meeting rooms, Golf course, Children's Park, Staff quarters, chalets, Student and research dormitory, farm, Gallery, clinic and Helipad while also committing to environmental protection and community development initiatives.
During the signing ceremony, the Commissioner for Heritage and Ecotourism on behalf of Gov Kefas Agbu expressed his support for the project and emphasized it's potential economic benefits and job creation that the resort will bring to the state and the people.
The Development Lease Agreement was signed by and before: Hon Joseph Titus Nagombe, Commissioner for Heritage and Ecotourism, Honourable Commissioner for Justice, Hon Yakubu Maikasuwa, Mrs. Malame Manzgha, DG AFIDFF (Lessee), Hon Yakubu Samaila, Commissioner for Transport Development, Mr Samuel Lauya, Permanent Secretary, ministry of Heritage and Ecotourism, Mrs Christy Mark Useni, MD Tourism Board, Mrs Apunarima Tuktur, Director Arts Council and Barr Zainab T, Director Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Justice.
As both parties prepare to embark on this ambitious project, Tarabans are optimistic about the positive impact it will have on the state's tourism landscape and overall development.
