Delta 2024: Taraba Commissioner of Sports Hails Solomi for Winning Gold Medal

With just two days left before the close of the 8th edition of the National Youth Games in Asaba 2024, Team Taraba has achieved another victory in the traditional sport of "Kokowa," a form of local wrestling. In a fiercely contested match at the indoor hall of St. Patrick’s Academy in Asaba, Taraba State's Solomi Philip secured a gold medal against Abia State.

This achievement comes on the heels of Team Taraba's earlier success in cricket, where they won a bronze medal in the male category after defeating Team Edo last Friday.

Commenting on the team's success, Taraba State's Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Ambassador Joseph Joshua, lauded Solomi Philip's victory. He encouraged all athletes to continue striving for more medals in the remaining events.

Amb. Joshua also reassured the people of Taraba that the state government remains committed to nurturing young talents and supporting their development at the international level.

Similarly, the Director of the Taraba State Sports Council, George Shita, described the gold medal win as a significant milestone that would enhance the state's position on the medal table. Shita, who is also a board member of the Badminton Federation, expressed confidence that Team Taraba would secure more medals before the tournament's conclusion. He further emphasized the importance of maintaining the U-15 age limit set by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

Solomi Philip, the gold medalist, expressed her gratitude to God for the strength to secure the win. She also thanked her coach and the state government, particularly under the leadership of Governor Agbu Kefas, for their unwavering support and encouragement.
