GOV AGBU KEFAS INVESTMENT IN AGRICULTURE WORTHY OF COMMENDATION

In June 2023, less than a month in office, the Governor of Taraba State Dr Agbu Kefas to improve agricultural practices and increase output signed an agreement with an international company, Knights A.S of Czech Republic to supply the state with 750 Global Multi-purpose Mini Tractors and 100 Cabrio Compact Tractors, accessories, tools and spare parts for small and medium scale farmers in Taraba State.

The first batch of these tractors has arrived in the state. The Taraba State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has received 250 Global Multi-purpose Mini Tractors and 20 Cabrio Compact Tractors while the rest of them are expected in the state in a few weeks as they will soon be shipped to Nigeria from the Czech Republic.

According to the Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security, Prof Nicholas Oliver Namessan, the Governor of the state has already developed a beautiful template on how the Tractors will be given out to farmers at a very subsidised rate.

This intervention in the agricultural sector by the Governor is in line with his commitment to taking a giant step towards kick-starting the revitalization of the sector in the state.

Gov Agbu Kefas also reiterated the commitment of his administration to collaborate with foreign investors to modernize farming practices in the state so that local farmers can compete globally.

The Tractors were well coupled and equally test run at the premises of the TSTC Warehouse in Jalingo now Headquarters of the Dr Agbu Kefas Agricultural Mechanization Project.

This is the first time in the country that a state government is purchasing so many Tractors to boost small and medium-scale farming in the state.

No government in the past ever procured such equipment. To say that the farm implements are major game changers in the agricultural activities in the state is an understatement considering the value the Tractors will add to food production.

To ensure the durability of the tractors, the state government has trained 60 Young Engineers from the state on several aspects of the Tractors' maintenance and repairs so that farmers will enjoy it for a long time. The Government also intends to send the youths abroad for further training.

The commitment of the Governor to the agricultural sector cannot be over-emphasized.  Already he is registering all farmers in the state to enable the government to plan effectively for them and make sure what is theirs gets to them.
