The Taraba State House of Assembly has confirmed Justice Joel Filibus Agya as the Substantive Chief Judge of Taraba State.
In a letter dated 21st December, 2023 by the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas addressed to the The Rt. Honourable Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, titled
"CONFIRMATION OF APPOITNMENT OF THE STATE CHIEF JUDGE AND PRESIDENT, CUSTOMARY COURT OF APPEAL, TARABA STATE" the governor sort the confirmation of the acting Chief Judge as house Substantive Chief Judge.
"Mr. Speaker, Honourable members may wish to note that the National Judicial Council has recommended for appointment of Hon. Justice Joel Filibus Agya as the substantive Chief Judge of Taraba State and Hon. Justice Alfred Yakubu as the President, Customary Court of Appeal, Taraba State" the letter stated.
According to the governor, the decision is in line with the provision of section 271 sub-section (2) of the 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended
"Accordingly, Mr. Speaker, Hon. Members, by the powers conferred on me, I Dr. Agbu Kefas , the Governor of Taraba State, hereby appoint Hon. Justice Joel Filibus Agya and Hon. Justice Alfred N. Yakubu as Chief Judge of Taraba State and President, Customary Court of Appeal, Taraba State respectively" The letter read in part.
The Governor urge the Honourable House to confirm the appointments to enhance speedy dispensation of Justice and in the best interest of the people.
After reading the letter from the Governor, the house unanimous proves the confirmation and the clerk was directed to communicate same to the executive.
