Gov Agbu Kefas assent to 2024 budget to tht turn of N313,388,525,661.56
The Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas has assured that his administration will be steadfast in the implementation of the 2024 budget of the state.
The Governor made this statement in Jalingo this Friday after he assented to the 2024 budget tagged Budget of Moving Forward
The Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas praised the swift handling of the budget by the Taraba State House of Assembly, emphasizing the collaborative spirit between the executive and legislative arms.
The Governor emphasized that the budget remains a blueprint for the future he envisioned for Taraba State and that the budget would address critical issues, and foster economic growth.
Dr Agbu Kefas, stated that the budget will be implemented judiciously, adding that every Kobo of the State will be spent wisely in the interest of the future generation.
The Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, RT Hon John Kizito Bonzena in his remarks said the size of the budget was increased by Two Billion naira to accommodate some vital projects very crucial to the five-finger agenda of the Governor.
The Speaker commended the Governor for his doggedness in moving the state forward.
It would be recalled that the Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas presented a budget of over 311•3 billion and the House raised it to over 313 billion naira.
The budget signing ceremony was attended by the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, SGS, Chief of Staff, Members of the Taraba State House of Assembly, and those of the State Executive Council among others.
Before then The Taraba State House of Assembly has passed a budget of N313 Billion as against N311Billion , earlier presented by Governor Kefas Agbu to the floor of the house on Friday, 15th December 2023. This is with an increase of N2 Billion.
The budget Taraba News observed that it is 33.2 Percent higher than the 2023.
The House Committee Chairman on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Abdul-Azeez Titong while reading the committee's report at the floor of the house, said that the increase is strives to advance the infrastructure, Health care, Agriculture, Security and Governance.
"The expected revenue to finance the Budget by the Taraba State Government is N313,388,525,661:56 only.
He said that the initial size of the budget was adjusted to accommodate some projects that torches the Five fingers agenda of the government by adjusting the budget size from N311,388,525,661:96k only to N313,388,525,661:56k only.
According to him, the committee after interacting with Ministries, Departments and Agencies, came out with observations to include, the need to adjust the size of the 2024 budget, that the Budget estimates is higher than the approved budget of 2023 and that government should be highly commended for giant developmental strides in the state, and that Ministries Departments and Agencies do not have operational vehicles which hampers their operations.
"The 2024 Budget estimates is higher than the approved budget of 2023, thus making it a more realistic budget as it is tagged: ''Budget of Moving Forward."
"Government should ensure that all leakages such as multiple receipts and bank accounts amongst others, used by the Revenue Agencies be blocked for all revenues collected be paid into the appropriate accounts of the government for proper accountability and possible usage of the data generated by the Federal Government and World Bank.
"Official vehicles should be provided to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to enhance their performance optimally - he said.
"The Executive Arm of Government through the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning should ensure that government owned parastatals and Companies declare their profit and loss account every year - he added.
Earlier, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kizito Bonzena appreciated his colleagues for the quick passage of the bill, adding that it is for the development of the state.
