The book, “Taraba – An Emerging Global Tourist Destination – An Investors’ Guide”, written and published by Philip A. Munlip and Nzikachia I. Bami-Yuno, has been adjudged one of the world’s top three tourism ebooks for Year 2023. Under the headline, “3 Best New Tourism eBooks To Read in 2023”, CNN, Forbes & Inc. featured and listed the Taraba tourism pathfinder book among the three best tourism ebooks of the world for year 2023. Co-authored and published in 2019 by two prolific writers of Taraba State origin, Hon. Evang. Philip A. Munlip, FIMC, CMC, CMS and Hon. Nzikachia I. Bami-Yuno, the book was published online by Amazon Books on 26 July 2021, and listed by CNN, Forbes & Inc. in 2023 as “a robust compendium” in global tourism documentation naming it as one of top three ebooks in tourism globally. The CNN, Forbes and Inc. list of the world’s best three tourism e-books for 2023 are: The Routledge Handbook of Gastronomic Tourism; Hosting the Olympic Games, and Taraba – An Emerging Global Tourist Destination. With glowing compliments from one of the world’s most eminent scholars, Prof. Leslie D.J Rogers, F.O.I.E (Geneva), and a Foreword by former Taraba First Lady, Her Excellency, Barr. Mrs. Anna Darius Ishaku, Munlip & Bami-Yuno’s documentation of Taraba’s Tourism potentialities is outstanding and potentially revolutionary for Taraba’s tourism industry. A glance at the book shows that Prof. Leslie D.J Rogers, President of the Western Institute of Advanced Learning, San Fernando, describes the book as “a masterpiece in its originality, with a plethora of researched, well-documented statistics in relation to the socio-cultural interface with ecotourism, sustainability and economic stimulation: It is a must-read and study guide towards global leadership”.
The book was publicly presented under the Chairmanship of the then TSU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Vincent Ado Tenebe, at the Taraba State University in October 2019 at which the Special Guest of Honour, then Executive Governor, H.E Darius Ishaku (represented by Deputy Governor, H.E Engr. Haruna Manu) promised to acquire copies of the book for the State. Brief checks by Taraba News correspondent at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism undertaken to fathom the State’s thoughts about the book that has received global acclaim and the lucrative tourism industry in the state generally, confirmed that in 2019, the then Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku had directed the Ministry to review the book, “Taraba-An Emerging Global Tourist Destination” and to make appropriate recommendations to Government. Accordingly, the Ministry set up a committee that reviewed the book that year and made recommendations which were presented via a Ministry of Culture & Tourism Memo (Ref. No. MOC&T/S/30/Vol.II/264, dated 16 August 2019) to H.E former Governor Darius Ishaku. Three of the several recommendations of the Ministry were for “(1) Adoption of the book by the State Government as a working document for the development and promotion of tourism in Taraba State (2) The development of key tourist facilities and infrastructure in the major tourist zones of the State, and (3) The involvement of the authors of this groundbreaking material in the development and promotion of tourism in the State, and their support and encouragement to expand their horizon in further research into the tourist and sociocultural features of the state”. Our investigation also revealed that the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN) immediately invited the authors to join its ranks. So far, nothing has yet been done in Taraba State. Nevertheless, this listing by CNN-Forbes is phenomenal, and indeed a humongous boost for Taraba and indeed Nigeria’s investment drive, particularly in the lucrative tourism industry. It is as well testimony to the authors’ sterling work in this regard.
