The Taraba Tiv People's Association, Abuja (TATIPA), is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of one of its most promising young men, Comrade Jethro Saaior Yerga. Until his demise, Comrade Yerga was a senior member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
In a solemn statement, Chief Samuel Orhena expressed profound grief over the tragic loss, describing the news as a rude shock that continues to haunt the community. He called on all members to remain steadfast in their faith, trusting God in all circumstances.
According to a family source, Comrade Jethro Yerga peacefully passed away in his sleep on April 26, 2025, without any prior signs of illness. A Christian wake-keep will be held on May 5, 2025, in Jalingo. His body will arrive in Kyado on May 7, 2025, for interment on May 8, 2025, at Kyado, Benue State.
The entire Tiv community of Taraba State is deeply saddened, lamenting that the death of their son highlights the painful reality in the state—where they are unable to access their ancestral lands, even for the burial of their loved ones.
Chief Orhena also prayed for divine strength for Yerga’s newly wedded wife, his immediate and extended family, the entire Tiv community in Jalingo, and his colleagues. He asked God to grant them the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss and to rest the soul of the departed in the bosom of our patriarch, Father Abraham.
May his soul find eternal peace, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
