Uromi, Edo State Killings: Taraba Youths Distance Themselves from Purported Protest. Condemn the Killings and Call for Peace, Unity, and Progress in the Country.

 

In the wake of recent killings in Edo State, the youth of Taraba State have distanced themselves from any planned protests, urging peace and unity in the face of tragic events. A meeting convened by Ambassador Emmanuel George, a prominent youth leader, saw several goodwill messages and calls for restraint as the nation grapples with the fallout from the incident.

In his opening address, Amb. George emphasized that the tragic loss of life in Edo State was a national calamity, not just an individual or regional loss. "What happened in Edo State is a loss to all of us, not just to the people of Edo. It is a loss to every Nigerian," George said. He urged the youth to refrain from protests, stressing that the government had invested significantly in security measures and was committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens.

George called on the youth to support the government's efforts, creating an environment conducive to further development. He pointed out that the government has established platforms for farming and entrepreneurship to empower the younger generation. "The government has the youth at heart, and we must provide peace so that they can continue their efforts for our collective good," he added.

Representatives from various communities and stakeholders offered their condolences to the people of Edo State, sharing messages of solidarity and encouragement. They also urged the youth to allow the law to take its course, reminding them not to take the law into their own hands. "What happened in Edo State is heartbreaking, and we, the citizens of Taraba, stand united with them in their grief," a community leader said. "We must respect the legal process and avoid violence."

Further remarks emphasized the importance of unity and tolerance among the diverse communities in Taraba. Leaders urged youth to foster love, not hatred, and to treat one another with dignity and respect, regardless of background. "Taraba has always been a place of peace and mutual respect, where everyone can pursue their business without fear. We must continue to uphold this spirit," they said.

Representatives from the Edo, Igbo, and Delta communities in Taraba also condemned the violence in Edo State, calling for peace and solidarity. A youth representative urged fellow young people to shun violence, emphasizing that the future of the nation depended on peaceful co-existence and mutual respect. "We must not let the tragic events in Edo spill over into Taraba or any other part of Nigeria," he stated.

The Muslim Youth representative took the opportunity to address issues of discrimination, calling for greater unity among Nigeria's diverse religious communities. "We must stay peaceful with one another, and discrimination has no place among the youth," he remarked.

Finally, the Chairman of the Youth Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), North East, WOWICAN, expressed concern over the manipulation of Taraba's youth by external forces. "The problem is that some outside elements are using our youth to sow division. We must be wise and not allow ourselves to be exploited for destructive purposes," he warned.

As Taraba State remains a beacon of peace in Nigeria, the message was clear: the youth must continue to promote harmony, respect the law, and stand firm against violence and divisiveness. The collective goal is to ensure that such tragedies, like those seen in Edo State, do not find a place in Taraba.
