A three-day prayer and breakfast conference organized by the Taraba Prayers Forum commenced today at the Grand Shield Hotel, Jalingo. The event was declared open by the coordinator, Pastor Samuel Omajali, who also serves as the State Overseer of the Deeper Life Bible Church.
In his address, the Executive Governor of the State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, expressed appreciation to the body of Christ for their support. He was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Chief Barr. G.T. Kataps, who highlighted several key projects undertaken by the administration. These included efforts in security, agriculture, and education—particularly the implementation of free education from basic to secondary levels and the reduction of fees for tertiary institutions. He also mentioned the completion of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, the Kefas Palliative Market, and the reconstruction of the DDI Airport.
As part of the conference, the governor distributed over 1,000 copies of Our Daily Manna, a devotional guide authored by Pastor Dr. W.F. Kumuyi. Additionally, the Institute of Public Speaking presented him with a plaque of recognition and inducted him as a fellow.
In his address, the acting chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Iro Aliyuda Moses, welcome the participants and encouraged on the need for unity and oneness in the body. He thanked the governor for his support of the Church in Taraba State.
Also speaking the Special Adviser on Islamic Affairs to the governor, Alh. Hussain Ismail, gave a goodwill message and appreciated the governor's goodwill and benevolence to the Muslim Community.
During the prayer session, intercessions were made for the governor and his administration, unity in the body of Christ, peace, and reconciliation, among other concerns.
Brother Reuben Odum spoke about social media, its benefits, and its challenges. He emphasized that social media neither forgets nor forgives, noting that youths spend an average of four hours daily on various platforms. He encouraged pastors to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance their sermon preparation.
The Director of Studies at the Institute for Public Soeqking, Mrs Folashade Olushola, in her lecture titled Introduction to Public Speaking, defined public speaking as the act of delivering a speech or presentation to an audience with the goal of informing, persuading, inspiring, or entertaining them. She explained that it involves effective communication, confidence, and the ability to engage listeners. She further noted that public speaking occurs in various settings, such as conferences, churches, classrooms, business meetings, and social gatherings. According to her, strong public speaking skills include clear articulation, appropriate body language, and the ability to connect with the audience.
Many bishops, Clerics, public and civil servants attended the seminar.
The conference is scheduled to continue tomorrow at the Deeper Life Camp Ground along Mile 6 Bypass at 9:00 AM.
