DR AUGUSTINA MEETS WITH BOARDS MEMBERS; CALLS FOR SMOOTH WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

 



Dr Augustina, the Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Taraba state held a familiarization meeting with the Chairmen, Members and Special Advisers of Boards and Parastatals under basic education.


The boards are the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Library Board and Mass Education Board.


In an opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Alh. Idris A. Goje joyfully felicitated with the board members on their appointments adding that under the leadership of His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas, the education sector has witnessed a significant growth and change. He harped on the free  education in more than two thousand public primary schools and more than three hundred public secondary schools with over twenty four thousand students currently registered for free WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, BECE and MOCK noting that with the free education, the number of out of school children has drastically dropped to near zero as indicated by UNICEF 2024 reports.


On the other hand, Dr Godwin stated that the education sector has been enjoying synergies and good working relationships in implementing the free and compulsory education declared by His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas.


She charged the board members to demonstrate unwavering commitment to duty and study the rules that govern their respective portfolios to discharge their responsibilities while noting that alone one goes fast but together we go far.


Dr Godwin added that her doors are wide open for productive inputs that will help in transforming the education sector emphasizing that now that more hands are involved, she believed the work would be an easy one.


In their response, some of the boards chairmen and members appreciated the Honourable Commissioner for bringing them together and promised to support her in achieving the laudable initiatives of Dr Agbu Kefas for Tarabans.


In the meeting were the Executive Secretaries of the Boards, Directors and officials of the Ministry.
