The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has officially handed over health structures established under the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) initiative to the Taraba State Government, marking the conclusion of the three-year project in the state.
The initiative, which focused on expanding immunisation coverage, improving maternal healthcare, and promoting better nutrition for women and children, has made significant strides in hard-to-reach areas across the state.
Speaking at the handover, UNICEF's Chief of Bauchi Field Office, Nuzhat Rafique, highlighted the initiative's achievements in improving healthcare access and called for the integration of project health workers into the state's civil service for sustainability. She emphasized the need for continuity in the gains recorded under the project.
Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, represented by the Head of Service, Ahmed Kara, received the health facilities on behalf of the state. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to building on the successes of the GAVI project.
In addition, local government council chairmen and traditional rulers were urged to promote maternal and child health services at the grassroots, ensuring the initiative's impact reaches every corner of the state.
