Comrade Wanderimam Tenyang, Chairman of the Nigeria Association of the Blind Taraba State Chapter in an open letter to the Speaker Taraba State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Kizito Bonzena has appealed to the Taraba State House of Assembly to expedite the passage of the Taraba State Disability Commission Bill, which has already passed its second reading. This bill aims to establish a commission that will address the specific needs of persons with disabilities, promote their rights, and ensure their inclusion in all aspects of society.
According to Comrade Wanderimam Tenyang, Chairman of the Nigeria Association of the Blind Taraba State Chapter, the passage of this bill will be a significant milestone in promoting inclusivity and social justice in Taraba State for persons living with disabilities. Tenyang expressed deep concern about the plight of persons with disabilities in Taraba State, many of whom are unemployed and forced to beg to survive.
"The current situation is unacceptable," Tenyang said. "Many persons with disabilities in Taraba State are denied access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. They are often marginalized and excluded from participating in social and economic activities. The passage of this bill will be a major step towards addressing these challenges and promoting the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities."
The establishment of the Taraba State Commission for Persons with Disabilities is expected to create employment opportunities, reduce poverty, and provide a platform for addressing issues such as accessibility, education, and employment. The commission will focus on key areas, including education, healthcare, and the protection of social, economic, and civil rights for people with disabilities.
The commission will also work to promote awareness and understanding of disability issues, and to support the development of inclusive policies and programs that benefit persons with disabilities. Additionally, the commission will provide a mechanism for persons with disabilities to express their concerns and grievances, and to seek redress for any violations of their rights.
The Taraba State House of Assembly has been commended for its progress on the bill, and stakeholders are optimistic that the governor, Agbu Kefas, will sign the bill into law once it is passed. The passage of this bill will not only improve the lives of persons with disabilities but also contribute to the overall development of Taraba State.
"We urge the Taraba State House of Assembly to prioritize the passage of this bill and ensure that it becomes a law in the shortest possible time," Tenyang said. "We also call on the governor to demonstrate his commitment to the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities by signing the bill into law once it is passed."
The passage of the Taraba State Disability Commission Bill will be a major milestone in the struggle for the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities in Taraba State. It will provide a framework for promoting inclusivity and social justice, and for addressing the specific needs and challenges of persons with disabilities.
