By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, the forum aims to spearhead collective efforts towards achieving the region’s sustainability and decarbonization goals, marking a significant step forward in addressing the urgent climate crisis and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Nigeria Climate Change Forum meeting held from January 28 to 29, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria, is a pivotal event aimed at catalyzing transformative actions to address climate change challenges across the continent.
This groundbreaking event seeks to tackle the primary challenges hindering progress towards achieving the United Nations SDGs on Zero Hunger (SDG 1) through improved agricultural reform and food security, Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Climate Action (SDG 13) by taking action to combat climate change.
In attendance was the Honourable Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change, Hajiya Aishat A. Barde,a panellist in the event, elaborated that the Taraba State Government recognizes the critical challenges posed by climate change and has taken deliberate bold steps to address these challenges while exploring opportunities for sustainable development. Restructuring of the state Ministry of Environment to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change,with the aim to integrate climate change initiatives and action plans into the State's Development.
The passing of Executive Orders 3 and 5, which place a ban on logging and mining in the state in order to foster environmental protection and protection of public health.
The allocation of 5% of the State's budget in the year 2024 to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for the Greening Taraba Project, a special initiative serving as a testament to our dedication to the environment, preserving natural resources, enhancing ecological balance, and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
Continues awareness campaign on climate change to encourage behavioural change, promote collective actions and inclusivity, and empower communities with the right knowledge and skills to build resilience and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
planting and distribution of 2 million trees and seedlings across Nine Local Government Areas of the state to combat deforestation, land degradation, perennial flooding, and drought.

The state's youthful population and availability of abundant natural resources provide a ready workforce for sustainable industries, climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy waste management,capacity building, energy efficiency initiatives,reforestation, and afforestation projects.
