Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has launched the distribution of improved seedlings and fertilizers to dry season farmers in the state.
The ceremony was held at Donadda in Lau Local Government Area.
The Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security, Professor Nicholas Namessan Oliver, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Sarah Ali Adda, emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting farmers for food sufficiency.
She urged farmers to utilize the distributed fertilizers and seedlings effectively and not to sell them, to ensure the success of the initiative.
She also encouraged women to embrace farming as a means to improve their livelihoods.
Commissioner of Special Duties and Humanitarian Affairs, Saviour Noku, commended Governor Agbu Kefas for prioritizing the welfare of Taraba residents.
He encouraged farmers to support the governor’s developmental programs to continue enjoying the benefits of democracy.
Zanau Hassan Maikaisuwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and Food Security, assured that all dry season farmers in the state would benefit from the distribution.
He stressed the importance of using the inputs effectively to boost agricultural yields.
Director of Agricultural Services at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Iliya Karfe, warned farmers against selling the distributed items and noted that agricultural extension workers would closely monitor their usage.
He expressed gratitude to the governor for addressing the needs of farmers in the state.
Farmers’ leaders, including Salihu Kumba, Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (Taraba State Chapter), Tanko Bobbo Andemi, Chairman of Dry Season Farmers Association, and Nicodemus Smith, Chairman of the Dry Season Farmers Association in Lau Local Government Area, thanked Governor Kefas for the support and pledged to make good use of the provided resources.
