The Nigerian Senate, yesterday, has confirmed the appointment of Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Kayya (Dan-Ruwaiton Mumuye) from Taraba State as a Board Member, Northwest Development Commission (NWDC). The confirmation followed a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, detailing his nomination by President Bola Tinubu.
Born on August 30, 1967, in Kayya, Kassa 'A' Ward, Yorro Local Government Area of Taraba State, Kayya has a robust educational background and a wealth of professional experience.
Kayya began his educational journey at Kayya Primary School (1979-1981) before attending the Arabic Teachers’ College, Song, Adamawa State (1981-1986). He then enrolled at Kaduna State Polytechnic, earning a National Diploma (ND) in Accounting (1988-1990) and later a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting (1996-1998).
Driven by a passion for lifelong learning, he attended Nynghel Computer Training Institute in 2008, where he earned a Certificate in Computer Appreciation. He also pursued a Postgraduate/Professional Diploma in Accountancy at the Nigerian College of Accountancy, Jos, Plateau State (2008-2009).
Furthering his education, Kayya obtained a Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (2009-2010), and an MBA from Adamawa State University, Mubi (2010-2012). He also completed programs at the Digital Bridge Institute in 2012 and the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos, for Security Studies (CSP/SPY) in 2022.
Kayya is a member of several professional bodies, including: Fellow, Certified National Accountants (FCNA), 2009; Associate Member, Nigerian National Institute of Marketing, 2012; Registered Member, Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, 2012; and a Fellow, Certified Forensic and Certified Fraud Prevention, 2020.
Kayya’s career spans various roles and institutions: Yorro Local Government Council (1990-1991); Nigeria Agricultural and Cooperative Bank (1991-1993); College of Education, Zing (1993-2014); Federal College of Education, Yola (2014-July 6, 2024); Karim & Associates (Certified National Accountants) (2024-Present).
Kayya has held numerous leadership positions throughout his career, including: Head Boy (Kayya Primary School); House Captain, Fodin House (Arabic Teachers’ College, Song); Acting Bursar (College of Education, Zing, 1999-2003); Substantive Bursar (College of Education, Jalingo, 2003-2014); Coordinator, Taraba State Exam Ethics (NGO, 2011-Present); Coordinator, Adamawa State Forensic (2020-Present); Chairman, MBA Program, Adamawa State University (2010-2012); and Bursar, Federal College of Education, Yola (2014-July 6, 2024).
Kayya was conferred with the prestigious traditional title of Dan-Ruwaiton Mumuye, the first ever bestowed upon him in recognition of his contributions to his community.
With his extensive education, professional certifications, and decades of experience in leadership and finance, Kayya is well-prepared to serve as a Board Member of the Northwest Development Commission (NWDC).
