Former Taraba Governor Reverend Jolly Nyame Resigns as Trustee of Global Methodist Church Amidst Deepening Crisis_

In a shocking move, Reverend Jolly Nyame, the former governor of Taraba State, has tendered his resignation as a Trustee of the Global Methodist Church (GMC). This development comes amidst a lingering and intense crisis within the United Methodist Church Nigeria (UMCN) and the GMC, fueled by disagreements over same-sex marriage, leadership tussles, and doctrinal teachings.

The crisis, which has been ongoing for several years, has led to a split within the UMCN, with some members breaking away to form the GMC. The GMC has taken a more conservative stance on same-sex marriage, while the UMCN has adopted a more inclusive approach.

The conflict has been marked by violence, intimidation, and expulsions, with some members reporting being forced out of their churches and communities. The situation has been further complicated by allegations of corruption, power struggles, and ambition within the church leadership.

Reverend Nyame's resignation is seen as a significant development, given his influential status within the church and his past experiences as a governor.

In his resignation letter, Reverend Nyame cited his "fatherly role" to all churches under the Methodist fold as the reason for his resignation. He emphasized that his decision is not intended to spite the GMC but rather to maintain his neutrality and fatherly figure to all churches within the Methodist denomination.

The crisis within the UMCN and GMC has had far-reaching consequences, including the postponement of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) elections twice. The conflict has also led to the destruction of properties, displacement of members, and a breakdown in relationships between churches and communities.

Reverend Nyame's resignation may be seen as an attempt to broker peace and unity within the church. However, the implications of his decision remain to be seen, and it is unclear whether his resignation will help to resolve the deepening crisis within the UMCN and GMC.
