Speaking at the event, the Deputy Country Director, Action Aid Nigeria,Hajiya Suwaiba Dankabo solicited the inclusion of young persons in the maintenance committee of the Ministry of Water Management and Aquatic Affairs in Taraba State for proper maintenance of the facilities.
She said the impact and benefits of the projects are what matters to Action Aid and called for improved access to social amenities for women and children in the most vulnerable communities across the country.
She commended the implementing partners of Action Aid projects in Taraba State, WACHEF for transparency and accountability in the construction process of the hand pump boreholes at the cost of three million, forty thousand Naira each for the Boli Mika and Pakulum communities of Yorro Local Government Area of the state.
The Executive Director, Women and Children Health Empowerment Foundation, WACHEF, Jafar Magaji, in his address, said the initiative was part of efforts to improve quality of lives of the people through provisions of portable water for the communities.
Jafar Magaji said WACHEF is a nongovernmental organization that is committed in its own way to attract development for the poorest and the most vulnerable groups in the society with special regards for women and children being the most vulnerable.
According to him, transparency and accountability in tracking projects have been their map of identity and called on beneficiaries of the projects to safeguard them against vandals.
Community facilitators, Sunday Nasiru and the representatives of the beneficiaries, Kyauta Luka, Rose Wensa among others, highlighted some of the achievements brought to the two communities which include increased enrollment of school children based on the support received from the donors, renovation of the community schools, distribution of various leaning materials and trainings of some selected members of the communities at various levels amongst others.
Representatives of the Taraba State Commissioners of Finance , Budget and Economic Planning, Women Affairs and Child Development and that of the Ministry of Water Management and Aquatic Affairs and the representative of Inclusive Forum for Accountable Society in Taraba State, Mr Wilfred Jimoh, described the initiative as laudable and healthy.
Traditional displays by the cultural groups of the communities, entertained the visitors.
