The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) Taraba Associate Area convened its quarterly Area Executive Committee meeting at the Mama Ruth Pantuvo House which the Bible House in Jalingo named after one of it's vintage members on October 5, 2024. The gathering aimed to address key organizational issues and chart a course for future expansion.
Elder Ande Yusuf, Vice Chairman of the Area, chaired the meeting and shared insights with TarabaNews correspondent. "The Bible Society of Nigeria's primary mandate is to translate scriptures into indigenous languages, enhancing comprehension and acceptability across Taraba State's diverse societies," he emphasized.
Currently, the Taraba Area have the Mumuye and Tiv languages translated version of the Bible available in the market with additional languages in the pipeline. Elder Yusuf stressed the importance of making scripture accessible to all, regardless of linguistic or cultural background.
Elder Wilson Obadiah, in his capacity as Area Secretary, provided a detailed explanation of the structure and elements of the BSN. He urged for unity and cooperation from all members in order to successfully reach the Area's goals. He stressed the importance of collaboration among individuals and encouraged new members to join, referencing scriptures that highlight the abundance of opportunities for growth and success.
Since its establishment, the Bible Society of Nigeria has played a crucial role in advancing the translation, distribution, and engagement of scripture across the country. Operating in multiple states, such as Taraba, the organization is dedicated to several key objectives. Firstly, they are committed to translating the Bible into various local languages to ensure accessibility and understanding for all individuals. Secondly, they work tirelessly to distribute scripture materials far and wide, ensuring that these valuable resources reach those in need. In addition to this, the Society actively promotes biblical engagement and literacy, encouraging individuals to delve into the teachings and messages of the Bible. The TarabaNewa corespondent gathered that the the BSN Taraba Associate Area has established lofty aspirations for their mission work. These include, aside the finished translation of the Mumuye and Tiv languages, it is broadening it's translation efforts to encompass more languages, boosting collaborations with churches and organizations, and improving the distribution and availability of scriptures. Their determination to achieve these goals speaks to their commitment to serving their catchment community and spreading the message of faith with grace and dedication.
Elder Obadiah urged members and stakeholders to rally behind the BSN's mission. "Together, we can make a profound impact on Taraba State's communities, promoting spiritual growth and social transformation."
