A CRITICAL APPRAISAL OF THE BOOK “GOD’S MESSAGE TO KUTEB TRIBE AND INDIGENES OF TARABA STATE’ written by Pastor Paul Rika – Leader of the Holiness Revival Ministry. By Dinshiya Yavalas

In my attempt to analyze this Book, I took cognizance of the scriptural provision that says “Touch no It my anointed and do my prophet no harm – l Chronicles 16:22 and Psalms 105:15. This insightful verses are referring to those who are truly prophets of the Lord, and echoes direct message from the Lord.

This admonition was heeded to seriously in my critical appraisal of the book.

The first poser is, “who is a prophet?”. A prophet is said to be a person who teaches religion and is believed to be inspired by God, and prophecy on the other hand is a statement that tells what will happen in the future by a prophet. Was Paul Rika inspired by God to make prophecies about the person of Gen TY Danjuma, or was he under pressure to impress his followers? The Book of Ezekiel 13:3, says “Thus saith the Lord God; woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit and have seen nothing.

A prophet hears from God and relays the message to the people. It should be noted, however, that whenever prophecy is given based on feelings, as it is this book, Papa Adeboye said, that prophecy is false, and the Bible describes people who do this as foolish.

It is wrong to be in a hurry to say “God says” when God didn’t say anything. Mr Paul Rika merely allow tribal sentiment to push him to make those prophecies.

The expectation was that Mr. Rika will make prophecies on the incessant invasion of the Kuteb land of Ussa and proffer solution on how to stop the attacks and apprehend the perpetrators rather than making prophecy on Gen. TY Danjuma and the Chamba race his perceived enemies whom the Book of Proverbs 28; 20 describes as “a faithful man shall abound with blessings…”

In the first chapter of the book, the pastor stated that Ukwe Rimanyang of Takum called him and communed with him concerning the crisis in Takum and what His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas and General TY Danjuma were doing against the Kuteb. The question before Pastor Paul Rika is: was there crisis in Takum? The answer is no.

In order to impress Rimanyang Ahmadu, he told him that TY Danjuma had an agreement with the Muslim authority not only eliminate him (Rimanyang), but to ruin the Kuteb tribes and make them slaves perpetually, the pastor only succeeded to worsen the already battered relationship between the Chamba race and his people (The Kuteb).

The Pastor titled the second chapter of the book, “General TY Danjuma’s hatred on Kuteb tribe of Taraba State, hear him, “… Gen TY Danjuma took an oath with the Muslim authority, that has long he is alive, they should give him Taraba State to appoint who he wants to be the governor “. Unfortunately, the pastor failed to present a prove of the alleged agreement with the Muslim authority, except for long Biblical references that has no correlation with the issues he tried to impress on the young man that communed with him on the issue of Takum.

He stated further that “the power over the throne is the hands of God and not man or religious body, and advised his people to seek God’s will for the right man to come into government….” This means their failure in all facets of their struggles can be attributed to lack of sincerity in serving God Almighty. According to Rika, the fear of TY is that, if an indigene of Taraba state succeeds to be the governor of Taraba State, he would temper with what he (TY) has set-up in Taraba State. General TY is fearing that Sen Emmanuel Bwacha may likely succeed the throne and if he does, he is going to destroy the evil works he has done in Taraba State”. If I may ask, is Agbu Kefas, the Executive Governor of Taraba State not an indigene? or is Emmanuel Bwacha better than Agbu Kefas?

On page 18, the pastor claim TY said “please, let not Muslims come in to take over the governor of Taraba now that I am still alive… yes, I give the Muslims Taraba State, after my death, you can choose anyone among yourselves to govern Taraba State as you do in Nasarawa State. Be sure you don’t allow any Christian or indigene to ascend the throne “this statement is a mere fallacy that has no basis just to give him (Paul Rika) the audacity to have control over Emmanuel Bwacha’s property, including his spacious Event Centre in Jalingo which is now worship Centre for the Pastor’s Ministry. “… he TY told them to always frustrate him (Bwacha) and never give him chance to come to power”. The question now is; can Gen TY Danjuma condescend so low? I don’t think so. In order to buttress his falsehood, he said, “let Sen Bwacha commit his way to the Lord in prayer. God has chosen him to rule Taraba State and God is on his side, maybe for the 2027 Governorship election in Taraba state.

On page 29, the pastor stated that the word of is warning every Chamba man from submitting to Gen TY’s evil even plans, because, it shall be a curse to him. Unfortunately, the evil plan was not defined or identified by the pastor.

The inconsistencies in the book led him to write on Emmanuel Bwacha on page 55 “I want my true children to pray for the chosen vessel Sen

Emmanuel Bwacha. They are afraid of him… Accept him for l, the Lord, have chosen him, I will bring him to the throne, even if no man brings him. Be ready to support him when he comes…” the pastor was in essence campaigning for the Senator and also justifying the fact that Bwacha was one of his financier and a member of the Holiness Revival Ministry.

On page 58, he said “… the Kuteb know that TY was the one that masterminded the great war that broke out against them by the Fulani, many people confessed that TY originated the war to wipe Kuteb in their settlement. The revelation of God also say so… “ is this part of the prophecy or mere self-seeking adventure? After making this blatant statement against TY Danjuma, knowing that the fear of TY is the beginning of wisdom, the pastor wrote on page 61, he said referring to TY “… what a great treasure of blessing he would have left for humanity in the world. And what great rewards would have been awaiting him in heaven…” it becomes clear to us that the whole prophecies are evidence of envy, hatred, and jealousy of the General’s influence and powers.

The pastor did not see the level of kidnapping, hunger, and flood ravaging the community he comes from, rather he prefers to demean Gen TY Danjuma and praises Bwacha who has given out some of his property to the Ministry.

The simple question one might ask is; if Gen TY Danjuma releases one billion naira to pastor Rika to expand his Ministry work, would the same prophecy be said against the General?

Prophecy must align with the word in the scripture and true prophecy is an echo of what God said. Did God really reveal things and issues like this to Pastor Rika as he claimed in his book? Only time will tell.

In conclusion, the 102 pages Book was only intended to achieve and satisfy the yearning and aspiration of his Kuteb kinsmen and, Emmanuel Bwacha, his Ministry’s benefactor.

The book for all intent and purposes is meant to smear the person of Gen TY Danjuma to the admiration of his kinsmen and further exposes his lies in the name of God’s message. It could also be said to be another trick to raise Bwacha’s hope on his prophecy to him that he would be governor in Taraba State.

In my candid opinion, I don’t think this message of Pastor Rika to be God’s message to the Kuteb people and indigenes of Taraba State is the imagination of the pastor which cannot stand the test of time since it is only meant to satisfy the yearning of a particular set of people that the messenger belongs to too. Pastor Paul Rika’s message has failed to proffer solution to the plethora of challenges facing his people.
