GOV AGBU KEFAS URGES UNESCO VOLUNTEERS TO SHOWCASE TARABA'S TOURISM POTENTIALS TO ATTRACT GLOBAL INVESTMENT


 


Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas has urged UNESCO World Heritage Volunteers and Partners, currently in the state for a ten-day camp, to highlight the state’s extensive tourism potential to attract global investments. 


This appeal was made during a reception in Jalingo on Thursday, where the Governor, represented by the Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, expressed gratitude to UNESCO for selecting Taraba for this year's program, seeing it as a vital opportunity to promote the state's tourism offerings.


He emphasized the importance of the volunteers' mission to publicize the state’s natural resources, framing it as a lasting legacy. He assured them of the state Government's dedication to supporting their efforts in showcasing Taraba's tourism potential.


Mrs. Malame Mangzha, the Director General AFIDFF, thanked the Governor for his support and noted that the initiative aims to promote the state’s tourism potentials with Gashaka Gumti National Park specifically highlighted for elevation to World Heritage Status, She further said that this initiative will engage UNESCO to enlist other cultural heritage sites to the UNESCO Heritage tentative list, including the Nwonyo International Fishing Festival in Ibi, Munhu in Jen, and the MAMBILLA Peju festival in the near future.


Hon. Nagombe Joseph Titus, the Commissioner for Heritage and EcoTourism mentioned that over 17 partners from various global organizations came to promote Gashaka Gumti National Park and elevate its status to a World Heritage Site as it has been on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites for over 20 years and have not been confirmed. 


Dr. Dewayne Frazier, President of America University of Nigeria, expressed pride in the project and highlighted the importance of cultural heritage as one of the nation's greatest assets, beyond just oil. Previously, the volunteers convened at Peniel Hotel in Jalingo to exchange insights about the initiative.


The team plans to conduct a roadshow and visit various locations, including Gashaka Gumti National Park and the Mambilla Plateau.
