Appeal Court confirms JYZ election in favour of Abbas Tafida Sadiq of PDP

 

In a decisive ruling, that will go a long way in enriching Nigeria's electoral jurisprudence the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has upheld the judgment of the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Jalingo, affirming the election of Hon. Sadiq Abbas Tafida and dismissing Innocent Jabayang's frivolous appeal. This ruling shatters Jabayang's last-ditch hopes of overturning the democratic will of the people as expressed through the ballots.

The court's verdict, which was clear and concise, stated that Hon. Tafida won the election with a majority of valid votes cast, thereby strengthening the position of the lower court, which declared his mandate unassailable. This ruling subjects Jabayang's attempts to discredit the electoral process and undermine the people's choice to the trash can.

In his reaction shortly after the verdict, Hon. Tafida described the judgment as lucid and rooted on the points of law, commending the learned justices of the Appellate Court for their industry and sense of fairness. He further stated that the development has strengthened his belief in the Nigerian judiciary, concretizing its position as the bastion of our democracy.

The federal lawmaker commended his legal team for their ingenuity and diligence throughout the grueling process, insisting that without their commitment and thorough research, marshaling arguments that convinced their lordships to rule in favour of the people of Jalingo, Yorro, and Zing Federal Constituency the victory would have been impossible.

Tafida also commended his constituents for their patience and prayers throughout the period in court, dedicating the victory to them, and expressed gratitude to Governor Agbu Kefas for his support throughout the process, acknowledging the significance of his fatherly disposition.
