I forgive all those that lied against me

Come out  en masse on Wednesday and Vote for SDP -Hon. Innocent Jabanya at UMC Conference.

The candidate of SDP in last Saturday 3rd February,2024 Election under the Social Democratic party SDP, Hon. Innocent Jabanya has called on people of Jalingo, Yorro and Zing to come out en masse on  Wednesday for the re-run election especially those at the elected area where re-run will take place. The candidate made this call on Friday when he attended UMC Southern Conference-women convention hosted by DI-Zing, Kakulu, Zandi.

Jabanya also said he has forgiven all those that lied against him by spreading lie that he has stepped down for the candidate of another party saying he was contacted but he refused to accept, however he was surprised that the same people turn back to be telling people that he has stepped down from the race.

"Wednesday is an opportunity for us to correct the wrongs of the past, I am determined more than ever before to represent the people, I call on all of us to come out en masse and protect the interest of the people, I represent the voice and the hope of the  people and I promise you that I will never disappoint you"

Taraba News had earlier reported that The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency election inconclusive.

The Wednesday  supplementary election would be between candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Sadiq Tafida and the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Innocent Jabayang, who polled 17,214 votes and 15,537 votes respectively.

The Election Returning Officer, Prof. Daniel Ayuba, who announced this said the margin of lead between both political parties is 1,677 votes while the number of Permanent Voters Card, PVC, collected in the polling units cancelled is 14,759.

Re-run to hold in 24 polling units; 15 in Jalingo, 2 in Yorro and 7 in Zing.

Taraba News gathered that the affected polling unit in Jalingo include  Mayo-Gwoi ward PU 007, 006, 034

Majidadi ward PU 024, 018

Turaki A ward PU 004, 003, 006, 010, 020, 031

Barade ward PU 005, 011

Kachalla Sembe ward PU 008, 021, the total number of PVC’s collected in this Jalingo polling unit is  12,141.

In the same vein, the PU’s affected in Yorro are

Kassa B ward PU 001, 005, Pupule C ward PU 010, Sumbu B ward PU 002, 007, 004

While the PU’s affected in Zing is only Bubong ward PU 2 pulling units.

Bring Zing and Yorro together you’ll have  2,618 collected PVC’s.

Total collected PVCs of 14,759 in total for the three LGAs.

However, the returning officer said “In the current electoral Act, there is a principle which stipulates that, if the margin of victory is less than the total number of collected PVCs in the areas where the election is cancelled, the result cannot be declared and anyone declared returned.

“From the computation that we have done and the results available to us, the margin of victory is less than the total number of collected PVCs in the areas where the election did not hold, or cancelled, which is 14,759.

Consequently, the election is inconclusive, and a re-run would be held in the respective areas between the candidate with the highest votes and the first runner-up.”

Our correspondent reports that the election was held in the constituency on Saturday to fill the vacuum created by the death of Ismaila Maihanchi, who wo swearing-in of the 10th National Assembly.
