As the battle for who flies the ticket of the People's democratic party, PDP gets fierce. It is incumbent on the governor of Taraba state, Dr Agbu Kefas to swiftly intervene to save the party from division which may slim the chances in the forthcoming Jalingo, Yorro, zing federal constituency bye-election scheduled for 3rd February, 2024.
The people of Jalingo, Yorro, and Zing have been in tension following the rumour that the Governor has endorsed Hon Saad, even though this was refuted, many confirmed the rumoured endorsement to be true. Another reason why the people of the Jalingo-Yorro-Zing federal constituency are indignant is that the governor did not call those who bought the expression of interest and nomination form together before endorsing his purported preferred aspirant, Hon Saad, as widely rumoured. Besides, his anointed aspirant is seen by the contestants as unpopular, unacceptable and one who can not pilot the affairs of the party to victory in the forthcoming bye-election. Members of the People's democratic party, PDP are more concerned about the credibility, acceptability and popularity of the aspirant who will fly the ticket of the party, as the bye-election will serve as a litmus test for the 2027 general elections. To be honest, the people of JYZ(voters) are not okay with, Hon. Saad who is a Kona man after giving them numerous commissioners, On the other hand, the people of Yorro and Zing are supposed to support someone from Jalingo knowing fully well that they have the Deputy Governor, speaker and commissioners, but one will wonder why they are still jittery for the seat. The race is, of course between the Mumuye, Kona and the hause-Fulani, and one with the credentials of both political and academics to pilot the affairs of the party to victory come February 3rd.
At this juncture, it is expedient for the Governor, party and stakeholders to sit down and consider all the variables before choosing a candidate that will be suitable for the race. Missing this shot may not augur well for the party as it will send a wrong signal.
