Dr. Agbu Kefas is committed to further reduce the HIV prevalence in Taraba State. - Dr. Buma

 



The Commissioner of Health in Taraba State    Dr. Buma Gbansheya Bordiya has assured the  citizens of the  Commitment of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas to further reduce the HIV prevalence in Taraba State.


The Commissioner gave this assurance at Yesterday's World HIV  Celebrating day that held at Trade Fair Complex in Jalingo. 


According to him the occasion provides opportunity to further raise awareness on the AIDS Pandemic caused by the spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV); conduct HIV testing; show support to people living with HIV; unite stakeholders worldwide in the fight against HIV/AIDS; and also reminds the public and governments globally that despite the gains achieved in reducing the HIV prevalence, HIV has not gone away. 



Dr. Buma said,  Taraba State Government through the Taraba State AIDS Control Agency (TACA) is joining the rest of the World to mark this important World Health Day. 


The Global theme for this year's World AIDS Day is "Communities to Lead," while the country theme is "Communities: Leadership to end AIDS by 2030." 



"as you are aware the HIV prevalence in Taraba State was 10.5% in 2012 according to the National HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health Survey (NARHS, 2012). However, with concerted effort of Taraba State Government through provision of appropriate counterpart funding and support of implementing partners, the HIV prevalence was reduced from 10.5% in 2012 to 2.9% in 2018 according to the Nigeria HIV/AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS, 2018)" Dr. Buma Gbansheya Bordiya said.


He also said that  The government of His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas is committed to further reduce the HIV prevalence in State and sustain the gains of implementing partners.



"with the commemoration of 2023 WAD today, all partners, CSOs and line ministries are enjoined to develop and implement targeted activities, especially among key populations (Female Sex Workers, Men Having Sex with Men, Persons who Inject drugs, the Transgender, and persons in correctional centers); and Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (PMCT) including pediatric HIV services" He said 


 Dr. Buma Gbansheya Bordiya assured that

Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Executive Governor, Taraba State will continue to provide the enabling environment to implementing partners in State to ensure smooth implementation of HIV/AIDS activities.


He  appreciate the management and staff of TACA for coordinating series of stakeholders’ meetings that resulted in successful hosting of this year’s World AIDS Day; also thanks  partners like, WHO, UNICEF, Society for Family Health (SFH), FHI/AHNi, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF), USAID/RISE, Pro-Health International, Catholic Relief Services, Data.FI, NEPWHAN, ASHWAN, CiSHAN, Association of OVC NGOs in Nigeria (AONN), CAN, Muslim Council, the media, Security agencies, CSOs among others for there role 

" we truly commend your selfless sacrifices that culminated in the success of this event" he said 

 


He also express a Special gratitude to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas for providing the needed support that ensured the success of this year’s World AIDS Day. Her Excellency, and Mrs Agyin Agbu Kefas, the wife of the Executive of Taraba State for her  support to personally attend the Occassion
