TARABA NEWS INVESTIGATION:

THE PERMANENT SECRETARY OF COMMON SERVICE IN OFFICE OF HEAD OF SERVICE MR. ANTHONY WAKILI REFUSES TO VACATE OFFICE AFTER RETIREMENT.

"Rest is sweet after Labour" is the motto of the pensioners, but this is not so with some persons who have retired and refused to relinquish their offices, so is the case of Mr Anthony Wakili, who has retired but is holding tight to his office as the permanent secretary Common service in the office of the Head of Service.

Mr Anthony Wakili was advised by the office of the Head of the Civil Service through a letter dated 29th September 2023, to tender his notice of retirement. According to the letter, the commission observed with dismay alteration in his personal file records, particularly on the date of birth, during which he was advised to submit his notice of retirement to the civil service.

The letter reads thus, " The commission observed with dismay the alterations in your personal file records particularly on the date of birth which is 20/07/1963 and wonder why till date you have not yet forwarded your notice of retirement from the state civil service as required by the public service rules. Furthermore, a careful scrutiny of your file revealed your date of birth as 27/07/1963 virtually in all your documents in the files" a letter signed by Mr.Paul Maigida Tino on behalf of the chairman of the commission.

In another document obtained and captioned "Notification of Appointment," it was discovered that Mr. Anthony Wakili was employed into the state civil service on the 4th of July, 1993, with his appointment confirmed two years after on the 4th of July, 1995.

Mr Anthony Wakili yielded to the pressure of the state civil service and submitted his letter of retirement, which was approved on the 12th of October, 2023.

In a letter titled "Approval for retirement from Taraba State civil service in respect of Wakili Anthony (Permanent Secretary).

The body of the approval letter reads, " I am directed to convey the commission's decision on the above-named officer's retirement as permanent secretary on consolidated with effect from 20th July 2023.

A copy of the approval was sent to the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Budget and Planning, the Permanent Secretary of Common Service, the IPPS/ICT office, the Permanent Secretary of Establishment, and the Records Office. Equally copied are the offices of the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, the Accountant General office, and the Auditor General office, which were all informed of their necessary action.

From the above submission, translucently shows that Mr. Anthony Wakili, whose retirement letter has been approved, ought not to have signed or minuted on any letter of the common service thereafter. This means his continued stay as the permanent secretary despite being retired is against the civil service rule and the growth of the civil service, which is against the moving forward policy of His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas

The head of service should as a matter of urgency wade into this matter by thoroughly probing the continued stay in office of the permanent secretary Mr Anthony Wakili who clearly from the records available and submitted above is retired but refused to honourably take a bow from service.

The attention of the acting Head of Service is hereby drawn to this matter of urgency and normality to avoid setting a precedence that may spell doom to the yearning populace of unemployed youths.
