The event commenced with a warm welcome to all attendees, expressing gratitude for their safe journey to the gathering.
During the meeting, Governor Agbu Kefas addressed the distinguished gathering, emphasizing his vision for education in Taraba State. The Governor highlighted the potential and natural resources of the state, while also acknowledging the concerning reality of having one of the highest numbers of out-of-school children in Nigeria. This dire situation prompted the Governor to take action and work towards transforming the educational landscape.
Governor Kefas candidly shared his personal endeavors to uplift education in the state. He disclosed his past contributions to supporting students' education, sponsoring over 500 students at Kwararafa University and registering over 1,000 orphans in the Karim Lamido area. The Governor expressed deep concern for children affected by the crisis, who have been left without proper rehabilitation and have resorted to drugs, leading to confusion.
Fueled by his passion to make a difference, Governor Kefas took the opportunity to advise himself and others in positions of power to prioritize the right course of action for the greater good. He acknowledged the poor conditions of schools during his visits and shared his determination to change the status quo.
Having witnessed the challenges faced by the principals and their students, Governor Kefas declared free primary and secondary education for all children in Taraba State, irrespective of their origin. The Governor emphasized the significance of educated citizens and envisioned a future where Taraba State would be renowned for its educated professionals in various fields.
The Governor called for unity and collaboration, urging parents to send their children back to school, assuring that the welfare of the principals and teachers would be adequately addressed. He revealed plans to work with all arms of the government to build new boarding and day schools, reviving the educational system in the state.
Governor Kefas also announced the approval of sponsoring principals from the state to attend the National Conference in Asaba. This move is aimed at enhancing their knowledge and expertise for the betterment of education in Taraba.
