In a bold step towards modernizing land administration, His Excellency, Dr Agbu Kefas, Governor of Taraba State, has issued an Executive Order No. 1 of 2025, merging the Bureau for Lands and Surveys into the Taraba Geographic Information Services (TAGIS).
according to a press statement issued by the governor chief press secretary Yusuf Sandra, the reform aligns with global best practices in digital governance, efficiency, and transparency. He sais the move follows the enabling law establishing TAGIS as the central body for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and digital land management in the state.
By this directive:
The Bureau for Lands now becomes a functional department under TAGIS.
The Director of Lands has been reassigned as Technical Adviser on Land Records, Compliance, and Physical Inspections within the TAGIS structure.
With this development TAGIS will now lead all digital land reforms, certificate processing, digital surveying, and title management in Taraba State.
Speaking on the reform, the Governor stated:
"This is not about who is senior or junior—it is about competence, relevance, and vision. Taraba must move with the times. We are building a future-ready system that will outlive us and empower future generations."
The Governor assured civil servants that no one would lose their job, but everyone must realign with the state's digital transformation agenda. A Transition Committee has been set up to oversee the smooth implementation of this directive.
The public is advised to channel all land-related inquiries, henceforth, to TAGIS.
