The Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University, Jalingo, Professor Sunday Paul Bako, attended the matriculation ceremony of the College of Education, Hong, Adamawa State, which operates as an affiliate of the university.
Addressing the newly admitted students, Professor Bako disclosed that the College received over 27,000 applications for the current academic session, out of which only 7,000 were admitted. He congratulated the matriculants, describing them as “the fortunate few who secured a place in an increasingly competitive academic environment.”
“You are not just students of the College,” he said, “you are ambassadors of Taraba State University. Your academic journey here will be guided by the same standards, curriculum, and expectations as those on the main campus in Jalingo.”
Professor Bako emphasised that the matriculation marked the formal start of the students’ academic pursuit under the university’s structured programmes. He assured them that all activities at the affiliate college are aligned with the National Universities Commission (NUC) benchmarks and the evolving standards of higher education in Nigeria.
Reflecting on the broader context of tertiary education in the country, he noted the rising demand for university placements amidst economic challenges and high youth unemployment. He urged the students to remain focused, shun cultism, examination malpractice, and other societal vices that could derail their futures.
“Discipline, dedication, and integrity will define your success,” he advised. “Your journey here is not only about acquiring a degree, but about shaping your future and contributing meaningfully to national development.”
The ceremony was attended by academic and administrative staff from both institutions, symbolising the strengthening partnership between Taraba State University and its affiliate colleges in the region.
