Governor Agbu Kefas has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the judiciary in dispensing its policies for the progress of Taraba State. This commitment was emphasized during his visit to the Taraba State High Court of Justice in Jalingo, where he pledged to strengthen the relationship between the executive and the judiciary.
Governor Kefas described the judiciary as an independent arm of government whose collaboration with the executive is crucial for effective governance. He pointed out that his visit was not just a courtesy call but a strategic effort to reinforce ties and follow up on the recent workshop organized by the government for the three arms of government.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the deteriorating state of the High Court complex, the governor assured judicial authorities that their request for renovations would be granted. He stressed that a functional and well-equipped judiciary is essential for upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for all citizens.
In response, the Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Filibus Agya, acknowledged Governor Kefas' unwavering support for the judiciary. He noted that under the governor’s administration, the judiciary has received over 100% of its running costs, significantly enhancing infrastructural development across all judicial divisions. Justice Agya further appealed for a complete renovation of the High Court complex to improve working conditions for judicial officers and staff.
Additionally, Justice Agya called for the establishment of new judicial divisions in Bali, Zing, and Karim Lamido. He explained that the increasing volume of cases has placed a heavy workload on existing judges, making the creation of additional divisions a necessary step towards ensuring swift and efficient justice delivery.
Governor Kefas reassured the judiciary of his administration’s dedication to strengthening the justice system in Taraba State. He emphasized the need for continuous collaboration between the executive and judicial arms to foster good governance and enhance service delivery.
As the governor departed the High Court complex, his visit was widely regarded as a milestone in reinforcing executive-judicial cooperation. The impact of his commitment will be seen in the coming months as plans for renovations and judicial reforms begin to take shape, further advancing the cause of justice in Taraba State.
