Taraba State University Holds 16th Matriculation Ceremony at TY Danjuma Sport Complex





Taraba State University (TSU) celebrated a significant milestone with the successful hosting of its 16th matriculation ceremony at the TY Danjuma Sport Complex in Jalingo. The event formally welcomed a fresh cohort of students into the institution, marking the beginning of their academic journey. The ceremony was graced by university officials, faculty members, parents, guardians, and other distinguished guests, all of whom gathered to witness the induction of new students into the TSU academic community.


The matriculation ceremony is an essential tradition in Nigerian universities, signifying the official admission of students into the university system. At TSU, the event holds particular significance as it marks the transition of students into academic life, with an emphasis on upholding the values of discipline, excellence, and innovation. During the ceremony, the newly admitted students took the matriculation oath, committing to abide by the university's rules and regulations throughout their time at TSU.


Delivering the welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, Professor Sunday Paul Bako, congratulated the newly admitted students and commended them for their hard work and dedication, which earned them a place at the prestigious institution. He emphasized that gaining admission into TSU was not only a privilege but also a responsibility, urging students to embrace their academic journey with commitment and integrity.


"As you embark on this new chapter of your lives, I want to assure you that choosing Taraba State University was a wise decision. This institution is committed to academic excellence, research, and innovation. However, success in this environment requires discipline, dedication, and a strong work ethic," he stated. "You are now ambassadors of our great university, and your conduct both on and off campus must reflect the values of knowledge, integrity, and service that we uphold."


Professor Sunday Paul Bako also stressed the importance of perseverance and self-discipline, urging students to prioritize their studies while taking advantage of the numerous opportunities available at the university. He encouraged them to seek mentorship from their lecturers, engage in extracurricular activities, and develop skills that would prepare them for life beyond the university. He further assured the students that TSU provides a conducive learning environment that supports academic growth, personal development, and career advancement.


During his speech, the Vice Chancellor highlighted some of the remarkable achievements recorded under his leadership, made possible with the support and guidance of His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State. He noted that over the past year, the university had made significant progress in its academic and infrastructural development.


He stated that Taraba State University had invested heavily in infrastructure development to enhance the learning experience of students. The university had constructed modern lecture theatres, equipped state-of-the-art laboratories, and built new student-friendly facilities, including healthcare centers and recreational spaces designed to improve students’ well-being. He further revealed that the university had strengthened its academic programs, introducing new undergraduate and postgraduate courses while enhancing staff development initiatives for both teaching and non-teaching staff.


Professor Sunday Paul Bako also announced the establishment of two new faculties, the Faculty of Computing and Artificial Intelligence and the Faculty of Religion and Philosophy. He explained that these faculties would provide students with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in fields critical to national and global development. According to him, the introduction of these faculties was part of the university’s broader vision to align with the evolving demands of the modern academic landscape and technological advancement.


Recognizing the vital role of parents and guardians in the academic journey of students, Professor Sunday Paul Bako expressed gratitude to them for entrusting the university with their children’s education. Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ahmed Baba Muhammad, encouraged students to make the most of the university's research and innovation programs. He reiterated TSU’s commitment to promoting research and intellectual development, urging students to actively participate in research-driven initiatives.


"As a university, we are committed to fostering research and innovation, and we encourage you to engage in these opportunities to expand your knowledge and enhance your career prospects," he noted. He explained that research was a core component of the university’s mission, emphasizing that students who actively participated in academic research would be better equipped for leadership roles in their respective disciplines.


However, Dr. Ahmed Baba Muhammad also warned students against any form of misconduct, emphasizing that TSU upholds strict standards of discipline, integrity, and academic excellence. He urged students to maintain high moral standards, stay away from activities that could derail their academic journey, and work hard to graduate with good grades and relevant skills. He also encouraged them to engage in extracurricular activities such as sports, leadership programs, and community service, stressing that a well-rounded university experience goes beyond academic work.


Taraba State University has continued to establish itself as a leading center for academic excellence, research, and innovation in Nigeria. The institution offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various faculties, including Agriculture, Arts, Communication and Media Studies, Education, Engineering, Health Sciences, Law, Management Sciences, Science, Social Sciences, Computing and Artificial Intelligence, and Religion and Philosophy.
