The Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, has issued a warning to civil servants who attempt to falsify their retirement age, stating that anyone found doing so will face the consequences.
The Governor delivered this warning on Wednesday at the Exco Chamber in TY Danjuma House while receiving the interim reports from the Staff Audit and Verification Committee.
In August 2023, Governor Kefas set up the staff audit and verification committee to verify the actual staff strength on the state payroll, investigate employment conducted from June 2023 onward, and assess the legitimacy of individuals employed after June 2023.
The committee is also expected to make appropriate recommendations.
While receiving the interim reports, Governor Kefas emphasized the importance of integrity, urging civil servants to refrain from dishonest practices. He indicated that he would thoroughly examine the reports and communicate with the committee through the State Ministry of Finance.
He encouraged the committee to remain resolute and ensure fairness in their findings.
The Chairman of the committee, Haruna Abdulqadir, reported that during their review, they requested comprehensive staff lists and payroll data from June 2023 to 2024, along with executive approvals given to various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) during that period.
Abdulqadir noted that they have verified 40 out of the 96 MDAs in the state and conducted biometric capture. The exercise is still ongoing, and some staff members identified with discrepancies are undergoing further verification.
Members of the State Executive Council were present at the meeting.
