Institute of Dietetics Marks World Dietitian-Nutritionist Day with the theme Food Connects Us in Jalingo






The Institute of Dietetics in Nigeria (IDN) today marked the grand finale of World Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist Day with a ceremony held at the Specialist Hospital in Jalingo, Taraba State.

The event, themed "Food Connects Us," The choice of this theme is appropriate and timely, considering the era we are living in whereby people consume substance (FOOD) that courses harm to their system consciously or unconsciously because of hunger and poverty. As part of the celebration, the IDN showcased various food products made from natural ingredients, demonstrating how food can be both delicious and nutritious.


Some of the natural food products showcased included:

- Rice flour: made from rice flour, water, and natural sweeteners

- Plantain flour:made from ripe plantains and natural spices

- Avocado smoothies:made from ripe avocados, milk, and natural sweeteners

The IDN also conducted cooking demonstrations and provided samples of these natural food products to attendees, showcasing the ease and convenience of preparing healthy and delicious meals using natural ingredients.

In his keynote address, the representative of the office of the Head of service jalingo Dr. Bitenja Dennis of the IDN, emphasized the significance of food connect us to our culture,our families,and our friends. 

"Food impact health throughout Life time". Food is connecting factor for many of us " he said. "As registered dietitians and nutritionists, we recognize the unwavering efforts of the institute for Dietetics in Nigeria. 


In her remarks, the Head of Dietetics and Nutrition at the NHIS Specialist Hospital, Mrs. Grace Bikoro Stephen, commended the IDN for organizing the event and promoting  the importance of food and healthy living among the public. 

"This event is aim to showcase food devestification, and  how do we eat  a good nutrition ," she said. " It's only a healthy person that can function properly, and one of the side effects of having people that are not healthy in a society is that it even affect the government because allot of people can't function properly." 


 Additional CMD. Dr Alex maiyangwa, appreciated the dietitian department for what they are showcasing, saying there is a Link between nutrition and health is establish." He said"


The IDN is a professional organization of registered dietitians and nutritionists in Nigeria, dedicated to promoting optimal nutrition and health through evidence-based practice, education, and research.
