The Governor of Taraba state, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has flagged off the distribution of climate-smart agricultural inputs, tractors, and community revolving funds, as well as the presentation of cheques to farmers and communities.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Agbu Kefas noted that the state's long-standing collaboration with the World Bank has not only transformed the agricultural landscape but also set a benchmark for climate-smart and community-driven initiatives, adding that the partnership has raised world-class resources and expertise directly to farmers and communities.
The Governor expressed the state's gratitude to the World Bank and the ACReSAL Project for their impact in the state.
He said his administration is committed to giving farmers opportunities to prosper.
Dr. Kefas added that he is looking forward to deepening collaboration and will continue to scale up the project to transform the state into a model for sustainable agriculture.
He called on all stakeholders, government agencies, development partners, private investors, and dedicated farmers to continue to champion the initiative by the World Bank.
The Team Leader For the ACReSAL Project World Bank, Joy Iganya Agene, acknowledged the commitment and support of Gov Agbu Kefas to the ACReSAL Project.
She said the project in Taraba state has graduated from stage one to two because of the commitment of the Governor.
She said ACReSAL is the bedrock of fighting climate change, which has caused several challenges.
According to her, ACReSAL is designed to be implemented in the communities and urged the people to use their resources to fight climate change.
The State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Hon Aishat Barde said the ACReSAL day celebration would not have come at a better time than now and that it complements the Governor's efforts in driving environmental sustainability.
She said the Taraba ACReSAL project is a game changer and lamented that Women and Youth are most vulnerable to the consequences of climate change due to social, economic, and institutional factors that limit their ability to adapt.
Hon Aishat Barde explained that the agricultural intervention of ACReSAL aligns with the Governor's agenda and initiative, which is aimed at restoring degraded land to increase food productivity, among other benefits.
The Commissioner said ACReSAL is offering the needed innovations to address environmental challenges arising from Climate Change.
She advised the beneficiaries of the community revolving fund, climate Smart agricultural implements, and tractors to judiciously handle the equipment.
The Country Representative of ACReSAL, Abdulhamid Umar, lauded the support of the Governor for the progress of the project, which has made it rooted in the state.
In remarks, the Chairman of the Taraba State Council of Chiefs and Emirs and the Aku Uka, Dr Ishaku Adda Ali, and the Secretary to the Government of Taraba State, Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps, lamented the compromise of the environment, which has led to several damages.
Two beneficiaries from the state shared their testimonies of how the project impacted their life and appreciated the Governor of Taraba state for allowing the project to work and succeed in the state.
