Yesterday been 28th of March 2025, as at 3:00pm, the Taraba State Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management (TSBPCM) paid a familiarization visit to the Department of Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution at Taraba State University, Jalingo. The purpose of the visit was to explore collaboration efforts and work together on finding common grounds for promoting peace and conflict transformation in Taraba State.
The meeting was attended by notable personalities, including Bishop Innocent Solomon, Chairman of the Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management, Rev. Samson Slang, Hon. Bridget Twar, Imma Mustapha Badamasi, and Hon. Shedrach I. Gani.
Representatives from the department included Dr. Jev Asongo Amos (HOD), Dr. Danjuma Yusuf (Chairman of Servicom), Dr. Buhari Miapyen Shehu (Senior Lecturer), Barr. Jennifer Uniga (Senior Lecturer), Mrs. Fillah Bodi (Senior Lecturer), Mr. Nucha Gambo Suntai (Senior Lecturer), and Miss Tabki Irisim Emmanuel (Lecturer Assistant).
Bishop Innocent Solomon, the Chairman of the Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management TSBPCM, stated that the purpose for the visit was to harnass collaboration and partnership with the department while commending the proactive intentions of His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas, Executive Governor of Taraba State, in promoting peace and harmony amongst the communities in the State. He emphasized that the establishment of the Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management TSBPCM, was a testament to the Governor's commitment, something that had not been done in previous administrations. He extended gratitude to the Governor for his foresight and vision.
Dr. Jev Asongo Amos, the Head of the Department of Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, expressed appreciation for the board's efforts to collaborate with the institution in fostering peace and stability in the state. He assured the board of the department’s full readiness to support any initiative aimed at promoting peace and unity in Taraba State, and also commended the Governor for such a unique and innovative approach.
Dr. Danjuma Yusuf, Chairman of Servicom, acknowledged that the visit provided a valuable opportunity for collaboration and assured the board that the institution would fully commit to the effort.
Dr. Buhari Miapyen Shehu highlighted the importance of aligning with NGOs both within and outside the state that focus on peace-building programs, promising to draw attention of relevant organizations to the activities of the Bureau in Taraba State.
Barr. Jennifer Uniga, Senior Lecturer, suggested that the Bureau should seek partnership with human rights organizations and other legal bodies to strengthen the peace-building efforts in the state.
The meeting concluded at 4:00 PM, filled with excitement and optimism for future collaborations, all made possible by the initiative of Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State.
