Taraba Commissioner berates APC, activist over claims against Kefas govt. By Terna Chikpa, Jalingo

Taraba state Commissioner for Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Habu James Philip, on Thursday described the recent publication by one Ambassador Rekwensi Muri, an activist, as well as APC youths group over claims against governor Kefas' administration as misleading.

Hon. Philip also described the allegations as laughable, a mere step to portray Taraba in bad light.

The commissioner expressed that governor Kefas' transformational projects were visible, and were already impacting positively on the lives of the citizens.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that, Ambassador Rekwensi Muri, an activist from Taraba and a member of the All Progressives Congress APC, as well as a APC youths group, have accused governor Agbu Kefas of excessive spending on foreign trips without executing any project since May 29, 2023.

"I wish to inform Nigerians that Muri's claims against Kefas' government is falsehood, a mere step to discredit the governor's administration and portray Taraba in a negative light.

"Governor Kefas' transformational drive is already impacting positively on the lives of Tarabans. It's unfortunate that some people have chosen the path of opposition even when there is no reason to oppose.

"Considering Taraba with a population of about 4 million, with the majority facing extreme poverty. Statistics show that around 80% of the population living in poverty, governor Agbu Kefas has declared free education and reduced higher education fees by half, which greatly helped reduce financial burdens.

"The governor has also offered financial support through social grant transfers, providing 50,000 to 100,000 naira to youths aged 18 to 45.

"Through the Ministry of Rural Development, road rehabilitation has been prioritized. The government is constructing roads to facilitate access to local markets, ensuring farmers can transport their products easily.

"Through partnership with NG-Cares, governor Kefas has also provided financial support to verified vulnerable individuals. Recently, we distributed funds to 10,049 beneficiaries. We’ve also distributed farm implements from the North East Development Commission.

"The remodeling of the Taraba state college of Nursing and Midwifery Jalingo, the General hospital Ussa, General hospital Gembu and the implementation of the new national minimum wage that has placed Taraba state University staff among highest paid university staff in Nigeria is outstanding in the history of the state.

"Before this administration, insecurity was a major concern in Taraba. Today, the state is significantly safer. I can personally attest to this, as I move around without security. Farmers are now able to work without fear, which directly supports agriculture and economic growth.

"Considering administration's high focused on women empowerment, the governor through the Nigeria for Women Project, funded by the World Bank, has provided rice and groundnut processing machines to women across the 16 local government areas to empower women in Taraba communities". The commissioner innumerated.

Hon Habu call on Ambassador Muri and other critics of governor Kefas' government to revisit their archives for accurate representation of what the governor is doing in Taraba to place the state on the global map of development.
