Tiv Group wants Gov Kefas to resettle displaced Jukun, Tiv communities

The Tiv Cultural and Social Association has called on the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to facilitate the resettlement and reintegration of displaced Tiv and Jukun communities in the state.

President General of the association, Chief James Baka in a statement issued in Jalingo on Thursday expressed appreciation to key stakeholders working to foster peace between the Tiv and Jukun ethnic groups.

Baka in the statement acknowledged the efforts of Senator Dr. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, for his commitment to reconciliation and peaceful coexistence especially during his recent message to the Aku Uka of Wukari, saying such gesture was important in strengthening harmony and the bond of unity between the two groups.

The Tiv leader also commended His Royal Majesty, the Aku Uka of Wukari, for his consistent prayers and advocacy for peace between the Tiv and Jukun people, describing his leadership as a beacon of hope for fostering unity.

Chief Baka further praised Governor Agbu Kefas for prioritizing peace in Taraba State and fostering unity among its diverse ethnic groups.

"I want to on behalf of the Tiv people appeal to the governor to establish a peace committee to address the longstanding tensions between the Tiv and Jukun. The committee should be saddled with the responsibility of developing strategies to resolve conflicts and oversee the return of displaced persons to their communities.

“The Tiv Cultural and Social Association is committed to supporting all initiatives aimed at achieving reconciliation and lasting peace between our communities,” Baka said in the statement.

Chief Baka expressed optimism that collaborative efforts by political leaders, traditional institutions, and community members would restore peace and unity across the state.
