The recent turmoil surrounding the leadership of Honourable John Danjuma Ali, the Executive Chairman of Takum Local Government Council, has been making headlines. On the evening of Friday, January 10, 2025, Chairman Ali issued a press statement that addressed the controversy, stating that it stemmed from a mere disagreement that had been blown out of proportion. He expressed gratitude to His Royal Majesty, Dr. (Barr.) Sopiya Danlami Ahmadu Garboshi III, the First Class Chief of Takum, for his timely intervention in resolving the misunderstanding between the Executive and Legislative arms of the council.
The Takum Local Government Legislative Council had earlier initiated impeachment proceedings against him. The council highlighted a litany of allegations, including gross misconduct, high-handedness, lack of transparency, poor leadership, misappropriation of funds, and unauthorized contracts. The notice of impeachment was served on the Chairman, marking the commencement of further investigative measures through the establishment of a 5-member probe panel.
The impeachment initiation took place following an emergency council meeting on January 8, 2025, attended by 11 councillors who collectively agreed on the course of action. The decision to appoint a probe panel underscores the council's dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability among those in positions of authority.
Chairman Ali has denied allegations implicating federal and state lawmakers in the supposed impeachm
ent move, labeling these claims baseless and unfounded. However, sources close to the Chairman have revealed that the impeachment efforts were orchestrated by entrenched interests who have the wherewithal other the councilors.
The subsequent discourse surrounding the impeachment has ignited fervent debate and speculation about the future trajectory of the council. Honorable JD Ngati, in a televised interview on SUM TV's Morning Show, shared his perspective on the unfolding events, emphasizing the procedural veracity of the impeachment process in line with the law. He also raised concerns about potential external influences guiding the councillors' actions, hinting at hidden complexities within the narrative.
Political observers have opined that the impeachment saga has significant repercussions for the LGA, prompting reflection on the imperative of governance transparency and responsibility. The Chairman's conciliatory appeal for unity and collaborative efforts signals a progressive shift towards addressing the district's multifaceted challenges, encompassing intercommunal discord and cultural tensions that have historically plagued the area.
As the spotlight shifts from the tumultuous impeachment saga, the collective focus now pivots towards fostering development and prosperity within Takum Local Government Council. The intervention of the Royal Father in mediating the impeachment debacle is anticipated to bring a sense of relief to the people of Takum Local Government and Taraba State at large, alleviating concerns of potential disruption to peaceful coexistence within the community.

REJOINDER AGAINST IMPEACHMENT SAGA OF TAKUM LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN AND ALLEGED INVOLVEMENT OF FEDERAL AND STATE LAWMAKERS
The media space has recently been inundated with allegations and counter-allegations regarding my impeachment as the Executive Chairman of Takum Local Government Council. As one who is at the center of this controversy, I have been misquoted and misrepresented in various media outlets. Therefore, it has become imperative to clear the air and set the record straight.
First and foremost, it is true that there was a misunderstanding between the Executive and Legislative arms of the Council. Such disagreements are not uncommon in a vibrant democratic setting and should be seen as part of the processes that strengthen our institutions. Unfortunately, some individuals have misinterpreted this situation and blown it out of proportion.
However, I am profoundly grateful to His Royal Highness, Dr. (Barr.) Sopiya Danlami Ahmadu Garboshi III, the Firs Class Chief of Takum for his timely and fatherly intervention. His efforts have fostered a greater understanding between myself and the Councilors. I am pleased to inform the public that there is a harmonious working relationship between the Executive and Legislative arms of the Council. This synergy is vital for the development and progress of Takum Local Government Council.
Regarding the allegations that certain Federal and State lawmakers are behind the purported impeachment move, I wish to categorically state that this is a baseless and unfounded claim. Such accusations are nothing more than attempts to sow discord and distract us from the collective goal of development. I urge everyone to disregard these falsehoods and focus on building a united and prosperous Local Government.
To all sons and daughters of Takum, let us unite and work together for the peace and progress of our land. I urge us to support His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, in his vision of building a prosperous and thriving Taraba State. Together, we can achieve greatness and ensure a better future for all.
Thank you.
HON. JOHN DANJUMA ALI
The Executive Chairman
