The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on all Nigerian students to remain calm and peaceful amidst the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). While acknowledging the efforts of the State Government in addressing the lingering crisis, NANS urges both parties to intensify negotiations and find a lasting solution to the dispute.
We commend the State Government for their efforts so far in addressing the demands of ASUU. However, we emphasize that more needs to be done to resolve the issue and ensure that students resume academic activities without further delay.
NANS strongly advises ASUU not to use students as scapegoats in their fight for their rights. We believe that the rights of students to education should not be compromised in the process or it would stand and fight to protect the right of its Students also. It is imperative that both parties prioritize the interest of students and work towards a speedy resolution.
In light of the above, NANS calls on both the State Government and ASUU to resolve their differences and ensure that students resume academic activities as soon as possible, and on or before January 20, 2025. We urge all stakeholders to demonstrate a sense of responsibility and commitment to the future of Nigerian students.
We shall continue to monitor the situation and explore all avenues to ensure that the rights of students are protected.
