Taraba State Government has flagged off second phase of cattle vaccination in 4 local Government Area of the state.
The exercise which commenced simultaneously in Sardauna, Takum, Gashaka and Kurmi Local Government witness massive turn out.
Speaking in Gembu Sardauna Local Government Area, Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security Professor Nicholas Namessan Oliver, solicited support from people of the areas to make the exercise a success.
The Commissioner represented by Assistant Director epidemiology of the Ministry, Doctor Sani Isah explained that the second phase of the exercise was designed to massively vaccinate all livestock in Sardauna and other neighbouring local government areas.
He thanked Governor Agbu Kefas for his swift action in containing the cow disease and release of funds to purchase vaccines and other logistics for the exercise.
Commenting, Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Area Mohammed jirji Umar who was represented by leader of Sardauna Local Government legislative Council Salihu Abdulkarim assured the team of Veterinary officers of full support in the discharge of the task ahead.
On his parts,Chief of Mambilla Shehu Audu Baju who was represented by the Sarkin Fulani Gembu Saidu Bawa, thanked Governor Agbu Kefas for his gesture to people on the Plateau and prayed God to reward him.
In an overview, Divisional Veterinary Officer of Sardauna Local Government Area Godwin Mangbon advised herders to administer the right dose of vaccines to cattles.
Godwin Mangbon, stated that haemoragic septicemia affects cattle and other ruminant animals attributing it to stress,hunger, starvation and others.
He cautioned those selling fake cattle vaccines to desist forthwith or face the consequences.
Haemoragic septicemia is a cow disease that affects the heart,liver and other vital organs of livestock mainly associated with communities on highland.
Sardauna Local Government Area, the epicenter has flash points like Dorofi, Kakara, Mayo Ndaga, Furmi and others with recorded death of cattle amounting to over one thousand.
