It was in the year 2011, about 13 years ago that retirees received their benefits last in Taraba state. Until the emergence of Dr Agbu Kefas as Governor of Taraba state on May 29th 2023. There was a backlog of gratuity owed to retired civil servants in the state.
Apart from performing remarkably in several areas of development and progress within his one year in office, the Governor has performed remarkably in the area of payment of gratuity and pension. In March 2024, he approved the sum of N1bn for payment of the backlog of gratuity.
Again in May 2024, the Governor directed the immediate release of another N1bn to pensioners in the state.
He also set aside a monthly sum of N200 million for the payment of gratuities and pensions.
This June 2024, the hard-working Governor approved the sum of N500m for local government pensioners.
In addition, there is another monthly approval of N100 million for the local government retirees.
This gesture is a demonstration of the uncommon leadership qualities of Dr Agbu Kefas.
Throughout the last administration, nothing was done in that regard as retirees were crying all over and even organized prayers against the government at that time.
There is no Governor since the creation of the state that has given priority to the welfare of retirees like Dr Agbu Kefas.
He believes in the payment of wages to those who have served the state.
The Governor often reiterated that he is in government to serve the people and not to accumulate wealth or personal gains. What the Governor is doing has proven that he is a pragmatic servant leader.
He has the retirees at heart and is moved by their plights. That is why within a few months, he has committed over N2.5b to pay them.
It, therefore, goes to say that under Dr Agbu Kefas civil servants are no longer afraid of retirement because their rights and privileges are guaranteed.
Another cheering news is that on the minimum wage tussle Governor Agbu Kefas has promised to pay workers the amount agreed by the federal government and labour.
Tarabans, Civil servants, and retirees need to support Governor Agbu Kefas to succeed.
With Governor Agbu Kefas Taraba is on the threshold of prosperity.
