In a joint press conference held in Jalingo, the Kuteb Yatso of Nigeria (KYN) and the ruling houses of Takum, Likam, and Akenten, voiced strong objections to the recent speech made by General T.Y. Danjuma at a reception in Takum, Taraba State.
The KYN and the ruling houses highlighted several points of contention in Danjuma's speech, particularly his remarks regarding the judiciary, discrimination, and historical inaccuracies concerning Takum's heritage.
Danjuma's assertion that the people of Takum have a history of litigation, coupled with his apparent distrust in the judiciary, drew sharp criticism from the KYN and the ruling houses. They reaffirmed their confidence in the judiciary's ability to dispense justice impartially.
Furthermore, Danjuma's comments on the origins of Takum's inhabitants and his alleged distortion of Takum's history were vigorously contested. The KYN and the ruling houses emphasized the rich heritage of the Kuteb people and their integral role in the founding and development of Takum.
The press conference also addressed Danjuma's characterization of past Kuteb chiefs, which was condemned as derogatory and unfounded. The KYN and the ruling houses refuted Danjuma's claims, citing historical evidence of the positive contributions made by Kuteb leaders to Takum's growth.
They highlighted the historical lineage of Kuteb chiefs (Ukwe) who governed Takum from 1510 to 1996, emphasizing uninterrupted Kuteb leadership.
Permit us to reproduce for the records the chronological order of Kuteb Chiefs (Ukwe) of Takum: S/N UKWE NAME 1. Ukwe Likam Kuteb I 2. Ukwe Rucwu Acha I 3. Ukwe Kuteb Riyang II 4. Ukwe Hassan A. Gankwe 13. Ukwe Ibrahim Kufang Zorto 14. Ukwe Audu Gyaa 15. Ukwe Ali Ibrahim The above table speaks for itself those who ruled Takum from 1510-1996 uninterrupted by any other tribe in Takum. The General further states that: YEARS OF REIGN 1510-1550 1550-1600 1600-1645 1645-1695 1695-1730 1730-1775 1775-1815 1815-1855 1855-1890 1890-1912 1912-1926 1926-1929 1929-1938 1938-1963 1963-1996.
Challenging Danjuma's characterization of a past Ukwe Takum chief as "very bad and terrible," they presented evidence of the chief's contributions to Takum's development, including land allocations to Danjuma himself.
Accusations were made against Danjuma, including hindering Takum's development, promoting division, and planning to demolish the Ukwe Takum Palace, which holds the graves of past chiefs." The statement read.
"I wouldn't name names, but he was a very bad chief. That one was a Muslim but for expedience, his tribe became Kuteb and in the days where chiefs were responsible for allocating lands, in the urban areas for building, he
entrenched division by creating Kuteb enclave all around the town in strategic locations, he was a terrible man". It is a pity that the General referred to one of the Ukwe Takum as a very bad and terrible chief on the flimsy reasons that he was a Kuteb man and a Muslim. We want the world to know thasons that the Danjuma is not only the worst tribalist but a religious fanatic of the highest order. We want the whole world to know the high chief referred to as very bad and terrible chief who reigned and that the 996 as Ukwe Takum could not have been a bad chief when he actually died in respect of land allocations in Takum, as he acquired the following parcels of land from Kuteb Sons and allocated same to Gen. T.Y. Danjuma viz: a. The parcel of land lying and situate off Yola Road, Takum where the General resides in Takum. b. The parcel of land where the Gen. built his first Residence opposite Rimi Pavilion, Danjuma Road, Takum. c. The large parcel of farmland lying and situate at Tati popularly known and called "T. Y. Acres". Now, let the whole world tell us, who is a very bad and terrible person between the two persons, the late Chief or Gen. T.Y. Danjuma? In fact, Takum witnessed rapid development during the reign of the so-called "very bad and terrible chief" who is Kuteb man and a Moslem." The statement read.
Additionally, the KYN and the ruling houses accused Danjuma of perpetuating division and conflict in Takum through his inflammatory rhetoric and actions, including alleged attempts to demolish the Ukwe Takum Palace.
In conclusion, the KYN and the ruling houses underscored the importance of fostering unity and understanding in Takum, urging against the propagation of misinformation and discord. They called on all stakeholders to promote peace and harmony within the community.
The press conference concluded with a message of gratitude to the media for their attention and coverage of the event.
