Taraba State to Boost Mining Sector Development

 

In a strategic move aimed at diversifying its economy and reducing reliance on federal allocations, the Taraba State Government is embarking on a robust initiative to develop its mining sector. With abundant mineral deposits spread across the state, Taraba is poised to leverage its comparative advantage in mining.

The state government has forged a partnership with Finnish mining experts to spearhead exploration efforts, with their arrival scheduled for Sunday. Key sites such as Gembu, Bali, and Wukari will be visited to assess mineral potential, under the guidance of Mr. Matsai David Angye, the Permanent Secretary of the Solid Minerals Bureau.Dignitaries including the Attorney General, Permanent Secretary of the Solid Minerals Bureau, and other officials will welcome the delegation, signaling the importance of this collaboration. 

This initiative builds upon an existing memorandum of understanding between Taraba State and Oulu, Finland, focusing on mutual interests in education and mining.As a member of Mining Finland, Taraba State aims to attract responsible investors committed to sustainable mining practices. 

The government emphasizes its dedication to responsible mining, prioritizing environmental preservation and equitable benefits for local communities.The delegation will also engage with Taraba State University to explore further collaboration opportunities, following discussions initiated by Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas during his visit to the University of Oulu Mining School earlier this year.

Preparations are underway for the delegation to present Taraba State as an investment-ready destination at a European Union meeting, with support from the Minister for Solid Minerals.

 Efforts by consulting firms specializing in education and mining underscore the state's commitment to international engagement and economic development.Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas reaffirms the state's commitment to responsible mining practices, emphasizing the crackdown on illegal mining activities that pose risks to communities.

Adiya Uri Ngozichukwuka, CEO of April Benjamin and Dawn Communications Limited, highlights the culmination of extensive engagement efforts, aiming to establish Taraba State as a premier mining destination in Africa.
