Mumuye Youths pass vote of No Confidence on the current leadership of CAN in Taraba State Calling on them to stay clear of Wednesday re-run election

A group of Mumuye youths popularly known as The CONCERNED MUMUYE CITIZENS In Collaboration with the MUMUYE YOUTH CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (MYCDA) yesterday expressed their lack of confidence in the current leadership of CAN Taraba State chapter thereby calling on them  to stay clear of Wednesday re-run bye-election.

The P.R.O to the group, Mr. Alison Remission Lazere made this known in a press briefing to Newsmen in Mile six Jalingo after a successful World Press conference  which was held on the 10th of February 2024 at the Mumuye house mile six Jalingo

Taraba News gathered that the conference was held in respect of the re-run election coming up on the 14th of February 2024 and to demonstrate their support for their brother the SDP candidate Mr. Innocent Jabayang. It is important to recall that  The bye-election has among the leading candidates a hardworking and well-loved Mumuye son, Hon. Innocent Umar Jabayang (a candidate of the Social Democratic Party-SDP). In line with his competence, capacity, and character, he became a household name in the constituency and the favourite for the seat. This attracted the admiration and endorsement of several individuals, groups,   associations for him, topical among them  is the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Taraba State Chapter.

However, a few hours to the re-run, a new twist dawned, when the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Taraba State chapter made an appeal  to Hon. Innocent Umar Jabayang to step down for the candidate of

the PDP . Following the appeal by CAN , the SDP  candidate expressed his dissatisfaction with such a request but the latter went ahead

unethically and released a circular withdrawing their endorsement of Hon.

Innocent Umar Jabayang and calling on all Christians to support the

candidate of the PDP.

From the foregoing, the P.R.O of the Mumuye youths forum strongly condemned  the recent activities of CAN, especially in relation to the bye-election in the state: “ We are passing

a vote of no confidence on the current leadership of CAN in the state and

calling on them to stay clear of any form of interference before, during,

and after the re-run election scheduled for Wednesday 14th February 2024.

While we thank His Excellency, Governor Agbu Kefas for his continuous

love for the Mumuye people, we urge him to stay true to the political

mariage between the Jukun and Mumuye people while providing level

grounds for the candidates in the re-run election. Let the will of the people

prevail, which will bring the development his Excellency desires for the

State.

While we pledge to continue being law-abiding, we shall resist in every

possible way any attempt to subvert the will of the people.” he said.

There is no gain saying that the three local govemment areas making up this federal constituency are dominantly occupied by the peace-loving and law-abiding Mumuye people. They are well known for their hospitality and unrelenting desire for peace, which is recently being threatened. Some enemies of peace in the form of kidnappers and unknown gunmen have in the last few months occupied the mountains of the Mumuye nation with little or no resistance from the security agencies nor call for intervention by their representatives in the national assembly. This sad, inhumane, and barbaric act has affected the residency and economic life of the people. This has started manifesting negatively in the high cost of food items because the Mumuye people are predominantly farmers. The low turnout for the bye-election is another pointer of bad days ahead.

Finally, he called on the people in the polling units where the re-run election

will be held to come out en masse on Wednesday 14th February to confirm

the trust and confidence bestowed on Hon. Innocent Umar Jabayang.
