Governor Agbu Kefas Addresses NLC Protest Demanding Economic Reforms in Jalingo.

Taraba State Governor engages peaceful demonstrators at government house, promises reforms.

In response to the nationwide protest declared by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Taraba branch of the NLC staged a peaceful demonstration today demanding action on critical economic issues. The protesters marched towards the Taraba State Government House, highlighting concerns over fuel price hikes, minimum wages, hardship, federal government palliative policies, and anti-poor measures.

Governor Agbu Kefas, recognizing the importance of engaging with citizens, addressed the demonstrators at the government house gate. Speaking before a crowd that included the Deputy Governor, members of the executive councils, government officials, and concerned citizens, the governor expressed gratitude for the peaceful movement.

"We are here to serve the people, not to oppress them," Governor Kefas asserted. "We belong to the same family, the same schools, and faced similar challenges that brought us into our positions of leadership. Let us work together to find solutions to our pressing issues."

The governor assured the protesters that their demands would be heard, and consultations would take place with various stakeholders, including labor unions, transport workers, and market representatives. He stressed the importance of constructive dialogue in crafting effective policies and solutions.

Addressing the contentious issue of fuel subsidies, the governor emphasized that a collective effort was required to bring about meaningful change. "We cannot think alone; we need your constructive enthusiasm and advice to deliver on the promises for which you voted us into office," he said.

Governor Kefas also touched on the topic of education, affirming his commitment to free education. He acknowledged the importance of collaboration with educators, including head teachers and school principals, to ensure the success of this initiative.

As the peaceful demonstration concluded, the governor thanked the citizens for their calmness and reiterated his determination to roll out his proposed palliative plan before Monday. He urged everyone to work together to achieve the common goal of a prosperous Taraba State.
