Taraba state Governor, Dr.  Agbu Kefas on Tuesday called on the youths of the state to embrace entrepreneurship and innovative ideas to help move the state forward.

Kefas made the call while declaring open, the first Taraba Youths, Economic and Security Summit at the gym hall of Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo.

While re-assuring the youths that he will fulfill all his campaign promises to the people of the state, Kefas said his administration will be youths' centered who will help drive the future of the state.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Gibeon Timothy Kataps, Kefas noted that 80 percent of his appointees shall be youths aged 25 to 45 years with good experience in the private and public sector.

"Youths are to be the centre stage of my administration. Already, I have sent out the criteria for the selection of people to be appointed into the government.

The list of appointees will start coming in within the week and 80 must be youths and women.

"I want to congratulate you all for being in this summit and I urge you to devote time to learn and ask relevant questions, be creative and innovative so we can build the future of Taraba state together," he said.

Earlier, chairman of the summit organising committee, Mr.  Benjamin Bako in a remark said the summit was the initiative of Governor Kefas to change the thinking of the youths and harvest youths' innovative ideas and creativity to move the state forward.

Bako called on the youths to change their thinking towards government jobs and imbibe the entrepreneurship spirit, adding that big certificates  were not what they require to succeed in life.

"To succeed, you must have a daring mindset and stop spending time in places and with persons that won't grow you and add value to your life. If you continue to listen to analysis that leads to paralysis, no matter how big your certificate is, you are going nowhere.

"Our dear state today is replete with cemeteries of great dreams because of mind set, wrong orientation and what people listen to. You become what you think. So,you must explore, you must be audacious and you must be bold. Certificates can take you up, but only attitude and good behaviour can keep you there," he said.

Our correspondent reports that the three days summit which will feature talks and discussion around economic investment and security is expected to end on Thursday.
