Thousands of people across the country have continued to express shock at the demise of the member-elect of Jalingo, Yorro, Zing Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Isma'ila Maihanci, who died in the early hours of Saturday 22 April 2023.
One of those left in shock is the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
Hon. Gbajabiamila said he was shocked that Maihanci, who just got elected to represent the Jalingo, Yorro, and Zing Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, died at the young age of 37.
Describing the news of the demise of the member-elect as devastating and disheartening, Hon. Gbajabiamila said from the little he knew about the late Maihanci, the Taraba politician was one Nigerian who was ready to serve his people diligently.
The Speaker expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late politician, the people, and the government of Taraba State, especially his constituents in the Jalingo, Yorro, and Zing Federal Constituency.
He prayed for the repose of the soul of Hon. Ismaila Yushau Maihanci, asking God to give his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
For his part, PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said, "I received with shock and sadness reports of the passing away of Ismaila Maihanci, a member-elect of the Jalingo, Yorro, Zing Federal Constituency, to the 10th National Assembly.
"Ismaila was a young, vibrant, and promising politician whose sudden demise would be sorely missed in his constituency.
"I pray Allah, the benevolent and the merciful, to comfort his immediate family, friends, and associates and to grant the deceased eternal rest."
Meanwhile, Governor-elect in Taraba State, Col. Agbu Kefas Rtd Ph.D., said, "I submit to the Will of God on this sad news, as we mourn the demise of this young Democrat. May the soul of Ismaila Maihanci, the Reps member-elect for Jalingo, Yorro, and Zing Federal Constituency in Taraba State, rest with his Creator. Amen!"
A condolence message signed by PDP State Publicity Secretary, Andeta'rang Irammae, also read, "PDP Commiserates with the people of Jalingo, Yorro, and Zing Federal Constituency over the demise of their Member-elect.
"The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Taraba State chapter, received with rude shock the sad news of the death of its chieftain, Hon. Ismaila Maihanci Yusha'u.
"The deceased was the House of Representatives-elect Member representing Jalingo, Yorro, and Zing Federal Constituency, whose contributions have immensely impacted positively the growth of the party in the State.
"He died in the National Hospital Abuja early this morning, Saturday 22nd April 2023 after passing through a brief illness.
"The State Working Committee on behalf of the State Executive Committee extends through this medium our sincere condolences to his immediate and extended family members, his constituents, and the entire people of Taraba State.
"May God Almighty grant him eternal rest and the family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss."
À statement from the Jalingo Local Government Area, signed by its Care Taker Committee (CTC) Chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Aminu Jauro Hassan read: "We deeply commiserate with the family of Hon. Ismaila Yushau Maihanci, the people of Jalingo, Yorro and Zing Federal Constituency, the PDP family, His Excellency, Arch Darius Dickson Ishaku, and the State in general over the demise of Hon. Ismaila Yushau Maihanci.
"Maihanci before his shocking death was the PDP member-elect for Jalingo, Yorro and Zing Federal Constituency.
"While we are deeply pained and saddened by the sudden death of Hon. Maihanci, we however, take solace in the will of the Almighty Allah and the selfless lifestyle of the deceased.
"Maihanci was an embodiment of humility, an epitome of generosity, and a support system to his community and many lives. He will be missed for all of these virtues he demonstrated and the impacts he would have made as a Member in the House of Reps.
"We, therefore submit to the will of Allah and pray for everyone, especially the immediate family, for the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss."
Maihanchi was laid to rest in Jalingo, the Taraba State c, on 22 April 2023.0
